FITZ-Prepping Evidence Against Rove(Who Was Offered Plea Deal in Dec)

Fitzgerald Maintains Focus on Rove
Submitted by davidswanson on Tue, 2006-01-10 10:00. Criminal Prosecution
By Jason Leopold, t r u t h o u t | www.truthout.org

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is said to have spent the past month preparing evidence he will present to a grand jury alleging that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove knowingly made false statements to FBI and Justice Department investigators and lied under oath while he was being questioned about his role in the leak of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame's identity more than two years ago, according to sources knowledgeable about the probe.

Although there have not been rumblings regarding Fitzgerald's probe into the Plame leak since he met with the grand jury hearing evidence in the case more than a month ago, the sources said that Fitzgerald has been quietly building his case against Rove and has been interviewing witnesses, in some cases for the second and third time, who have provided him with information related to Rove's role in the leak. It is unclear when Fitzgerald is expected to meet with the grand jury again.

According to sources, Fitzgerald had planned to meet with the grand jury several times last month, hoping to wrap up the case specifically as it relates to Rove's involvement. But the prosecutor, who empanelled a second grand jury in November and whose term expires in 18 months, had his hands full dealing with another high-profile criminal case he is prosecuting involving Lord Conrad Black, owner of several major metropolitan newspapers, who was indicted on charges including racketeering.

...

But sources knowledgeable about the case against Rove say that he was offered a plea deal in December and that Luskin had twice met with Fitzgerald during that time to discuss Rove's legal status. Rove turned down the plea deal, which would likely have required him to provide Fitzgerald with information against other officials who were involved in Plame's outing as well as testifying against those people, the sources said.

4. It's gonna be another Poindexter-type pardon for Rove...
And he'll be right back on the job.
Sorry, I too am hoping Rove and his boss are sent to prison, but then reality seeps back in. Fascism is hard to root out when it's become institutionalized like this.

5. Rove was offered a plea deal in December

Rove turned down the plea deal, which would likely have required him to provide Fitzgerald with information against other officials who were involved in Plame's outing as well as testifying against those people, the sources said.

Luskin would neither confirm nor deny that a meeting with Fitzgerald took place last month. "I am simply not going to comment on whether I was or wasn't talking to Mr. Fitzgerald," Luskin said. "I am not acknowledging that it did or didn't happen, I am just saying that I have never commented about that before and I am not going to start doing that now."

6. Ask yourself--looking at this whole event (the Fitz prosecution) from
way up high, a large perspective--why Fitzgerald would, like a mad terrier, sink his teeth into Libby's and Rove's ankles and hang on for dear life. It seems like a losing game. They've got a bunker wall around Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld (the latter being my bet for the most guilty for Treasongate and whatever is really behind Treasongate--what Treasongate was a coverup for). It's typical prosecution strategy (a strategy of which Fitzgerald is a master) to slow cook the underlings, trying to nail the overlings. So that may be why he's doing it--a reflex action. That's what you do. But Treasongate is SO-O-O-O-O-O smelly, and so BushWorld, I tend to think he has some clues as to what was REALLY going on, and it's SO-O-O-O-O-O bad, he can't let go of it. He WILL get at it. He MUST get at it. That's my sense of Mr. Fitz. And I think he as much as told us that, in the Libby indictment press conference, when he said, of the Rovian "talking point" that perjury and obstruction of justice were minor charges, "That talking point won't fly," and that this prosecution was about, a) WHY Treasongate happened (why did they out Plame and Brewster Jennings?, because b) the REASON for the outings IS the national security issue.

And (my guess) the REASON for the outings very likely has nothing to do with Rovian political revenge against Wilson (a cover story), and everything to do with Plame's job: counter-proliferation, hunting down and STOPPING the movement of illicit WMDs around the world.*

--------------

*(The WMD-planting theory of Treasongate is that the junta tried to plant WMDs in Iraq, after the invasion, got foiled, possibly by the Brewster-Jennings network, or with their help, or, at the least, BJ knew about it (and could rat on the junta), and that's why Plame/BJ was outed--and, not incidentally, entirely disabled, and all coverts put in danger--and also may be what got David Kelly (the Brits chief WMD expert) killed. It's one theory (which fits well with the time-frame) as to what may be BEHIND Treasongate, why they took such risks and seemed to be in such a panic to out this particular CIA operation. Is Fitz onto this? It's just a guess that he is, or is onto something else equally bad that lay behind the outing of Plame/BJ--treason, treachery of the worst kind, at the heart of our government.)

7. Wasn't There A Rumor That Rove Had Gotten Rid Of Luskin?
After the Vivecka Novak thing blew up on both of them? I rememeber seeing a post saying that Rove had brought in a new gun...one without as bumpy gums.
