Senate Bill (SB) 1486, a comprehensive bill relating to property insurance |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 03:42 PM by William769
(Florida)
Governor Bush signed the Legislation on 06 01 2005. One of the provisions of SB 1486 requires insurance companies to provide policyholders with a checklist of coverage which outlines the types of coverage provided by their policy.
I understand the majority of this & my checklist on my policy is pretty much self explanatory with the exception of one thing & I don't want to call my insurance company & ask about it. If you understand what I am about to write please enlighten me.
Additional living expense (actual loss sustained) 24 months. This I understand.
Fair rental value (actual loss sustained) 12 months. This I understand.
Civil Authority Prohibits use (actual loss sustained) 2 weeks. What the hell does this mean?

Police, fire, military...anyone really. It means that if the authorities won't let you near your house for whatever reason, you're covered for two weeks.
On edit, I realized I may not have been clear enough. It means that the insurance policy will compensate you for up to two weeks expenses incurred because the government won't let you near your home. If there's a toxic gas leak and you neighborhood is evacuated, they'll cover your motel bill for two weeks. If you're in a hurricane zone and the police won't let you back in after the hurricane passes because they want to keep out looters, they'll pay for that too. It basically means that they cover two weeks worth of real damages incurred by the denial of access to your own property.

living on your property or even visiting it like downed powerlines and ruptured gas mains (especially in quake zones). It's not as evil as it looks at first glance. The cops won't be stealing your property. They'll just keep you away until the danger is over.

4. I didn't mean to imply it was evil, I just didn't understand it. |
|
But then again in this political climate, it was in the back of my head.:o
