Forrest Gump's Evil Twin
By Stephen Pizzo, News for Real

How extraordinary. Something is happening here that has never happened in America's history. A consensus is sweeping the nation. Not that the war in Iraq is wrong, or that oil companies are screwing us blue, or that the climate is going to hell, or that good-paying jobs are being replaced by low-paying jobs, or that our national health care system is a disgrace, or that that the rich are getting a lot richer while the middle class gets poorer.

While all that's true, and more and more folks are getting it, that's not the consensus of which I speak. Nope. This one is bigger, enormous, huge! Here it is: The president of the United States is a moron.

Yes, stupid, dumb as common road gravel. And not figuratively, but literally. George W. Bush, president of the world's last remaining superpower, is a moron. Forrest Gump's evil twin.

I broached this possibility one year ago in a post entitled, "Bush: The Worst President Ever?" I was a bit early with that one. But what a difference a year makes! The cover story of this week's Rolling Stone Magazine reads, "The Worst President in History?"

Yes, Virginia, the current occupant of the Oval Office is no longer a crook or an adulterer. He's a moron. As if that were not bad enough, we still face two and half years with this man at the controls. NFR reader Philip Bourgeois suggested an intervention launched by former Presidents Clinton, Bush Sr. and Carter. Not a bad idea, Phil.

1. It's been widely known among Progressives....
for years that our "Great Decider" is an idiot. He's a total embarrassment to our country. But what has taken the rest of America so long to come to the same conclusion? I hate to keep blaming the media but.....it's the media. They propped this mental midget up so far they thought he was the next FDR and most surprisingly of all, people BOUGHT it! :eyes: Of course it is in the Corporate Media's best interest to keep the Poser in Chief in office, he's giving them huge tax breaks. But sooner or later you just can't hide the turd in the punchbowl from the guests anymore. That time has come in America. Finally!

4. I see the problems with the media as indicative of larger issues

of complacent shallowness and failure of self-critical analysis in American society, issues that I have been addressing in my classes since the late 90s, and watching in horror as they got worse and worse.

(All hail the Flying Spaghetti Creature!)

2. Amoeba
would be too complimentary a description of his comparative level of intelligence.

3. Yes, he is a moron and more...
he was installed by people who wished to fuck Americans out of what the middle and poorer classes had. He was installed by people who care not a whit about the religious right, and whose hysterical battle cries against gays, abortion, and removing the wall between church and state.

He is a creature nourished and birthed by corporate interests, who willingly prey upon the fundamentalists in order to further their own bottom lines. The corporations do not care what morals are inflicted upon our country, as long as they can successfully put into power politicans who will also ruthlessly destroy any legislation designed to lift the middle and poorer classes out of poverty and ruin.

Has your job been sent to India, or China? Tough, but gays can't marry. Are you training your own replacement? Too bad, but abortion, even to save the mother's life will be illegal. Do you remember when church and state were keep apart? That will soon become a distant memory, when Republican sponsored "faith based" funding allows the groups which are supposed to help those who need it most have a license to discriminate against those who will not drink their Kool-aid.

When you are clinging to survival by the merest thread, remember that this man is the one so many wanted to have a beer with. This ruin is brought about by a man who claims Jesus as his greatest philosopher, but who willingly enacts policies that are against everything that Jesus preached.

America, have you had enough? If not, how much longer are you willing to allow our country slide into ruin?

5. In most countries...
intelligent people are revered and viewed as role models. In the U.S., however, intelligent people are ridiculed and called everything from "pointy-headed intellectuals" to "geeks." Subtle and not so subtle jibes against smart people (think Erkel from "Family Matters") are all over this country. This is how a moron that would be the butt of jokes in other places is elected in 'Murka.

Have you any idea of how infinitely more dangerous he could be if he had a brain.
