Vote set for Stanford, Lucile Packard union
http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2008/08/11/daily15.html

The National Labor Relations Board will hold an election Sept. 10 and 11 to determine representation for 1,450 employees at Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.

Employees will vote by secret ballot with polling places at both Stanford and Packard hospitals. The NLRB will facilitate and oversee the election and the hospitals and union will each have employee representatives present to observe the voting process. The vote results will be determined after the polls close on Sept. 11.

“We remain committed to providing our formerly represented employees with factual information so that they can make the best, informed decision about what is right for them,” said Greg Souza, vice president of human resources for Stanford Hospital & Clinics.” The hospitals have launched www.stanfordpackardfacts.com, an online resource for information regarding labor representation.

SEIU Local 715 had been representing approximately 1,450 housekeepers, food service workers, nursing assistants, phlebotomists, unit secretaries, transporters and employees in non-technical and non-professional titles at the hospitals. Because the International Union directed the leadership of Local 715 to transfer employee representation to United Healthcare Workers without the employees’ consent, the hospitals said they had no option but to withdraw recognition of Local 715.

Gonna keep my eye on this one
