U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown met Monday with autoworkers from a Chrysler plant slated to close and told them he was exploring all avenues to keep jobs and economic activity in the area.

Chrysler has said it plans to close its stamping plant in Twinsburg by the end of next year, which would result in the loss of 1,200 jobs.

During the meeting with autoworkers and community officials, Brown discussed federal support that could retrain workers and invest in community redevelopment. The Ohio Democrat said in a news release about the meeting that he spoke with U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to request an emergency grant.
