Today in labor history May 20 First federal legislation protecting workers’ rights to form unions

The Railway Labor Act took effect today. It was the first federal legislation protecting workers’ rights to form unions - 1926


May 20, 1933 - Rubber Workers went on strike in Akron, Ohio, part of the wave of activism that took place among industrial workers in the 1930s.

Americans need to understand the importance of labor unions. They created the middle class. Their demise is leading to the demise of the middle class.

As they go so we go.

The folks who brought us the 40 hour work week...
