July 20, 2007--On Thursday, John Edwards tried to convince hundreds of Iowa union workers he should be the country's next president. Edwards was the first candidate to talk to Iowa workers from the labor union AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees.
AFSCME workers represent thousands of votes and several candidates will be in Des Moines to try and gain support from union members, and possibly influence AFSCME's endorsement. Union members from all over the state are in Des Moines to listen to candidates, and trying to decipher which one is the most "labor friendly."
The stage is set at the Airport Holiday Inn, where five Democratic presidential candidates will speak in front of the hundreds of AFSCME members.
John Edwards was the first to stop by Thursday, while Hillary Clinton and Bill Richardson are set to speak today. Chris Dodd and Barack Obama will be here Saturday.
