The union and company officials are working on the meatpacking plant's contract, which governs treatment, pay and benefits for the 3,100 union-member workers at the plant. About 160 employees are nonunion members.
The contract expired Nov. 22, but has been extended while both sides hammer out a deal.
At the 3 p.m. shift change Wednesday, six union representatives were escorted off the property by Greeley police after they handed out flyers — an activity allowed by the existing contract — informing workers about an informational meeting about contract negotiations planned for Saturday.
“The workers were pretty upset about it because it was information they wanted,” said Laura Chapin, spokeswoman for UFCW in Colorado.
* Chapin, who said union employees also were not allowed on JBS property Thursday, said the UFCW filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board. She said the workers' contract allows union officials to conduct business on plant grounds.
