Small, high-traffic northeast metro office invites applications for a full-time position as Administrative Assistant.

Responsibilities:
Provide administrative and office support to the Administrator/Trustees/co-workers including technical computer support and offer phone and in-person customer service to contractors and members of Local 10, staff and the external community in a complex, fast-paced environment. Perform various clerical duties such as, but not limited to, telephone backup, mail distribution, fax, photocopy, filing and data entry. Act as a primary liaison between members, benefit vendors and administration. Explain eligibility requirements and advise participants of procedures to follow.

Qualifications:
BA degree in Business Administration or Human Resources and 5 years of related experience with working knowledge of benefit plan provisions and regulations is preferred. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills needed. Must have proficient computer skills: skilled in Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel spreadsheets, import/export documents and working knowledge of database management and internet based systems. The candidate must be self-motivated and directed and detail-orientated with experience handling sensitive and confidential situations. Sound judgment, dependable, strong analytical/problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and with a team, and the ability to multi-task while attending to detail and prioritize in a fast-paced environment are required. The person we seek must take initiative, be adaptable and enjoy working with a diverse clientele and respond in a respectful, friendly and professional manner.

$15.00/hour and a generous benefits package.

North Dakota AFL-CIO State Mobilization Director

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The AFL-CIO provides union members with opportunities to make their voices heard in the political arena, informs members about candidates’ positions on important working family issues and get-out-the-vote activities.

The State Mobilization Director, under the direction of the ND AFL-CIO and working with the Midwest AFL-CIO Political and Field Department, is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing political programs in North Dakota.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Program Development and Implementation

• Meets with principal officers of ND AFL-CIO state and local bodies as well as affiliate regional and state directors to explain political strategic plans and goals of the Labor 2010 election year program.
• Assists North Dakota AFL-CIO, CLCs and the affiliates with the development and writing of political mobilization plans and budgets for endorsed candidates and on legislative issues.
• Builds and maintains ongoing political structures and mechanisms for mobilization implementation.
• Oversees the activities of ND AFL-CIO and affiliate staff on these campaigns.
• Presents training programs for state federations, CLCs and affiliated unions on political action, membership education and mobilization, legislative issues and federation strategy.
• Builds and maintains relationships with political leaders, their staff, state political party leaders and leaders of affiliated unions and advise them of policies and programs of the AFL-CIO
• Builds and maintains relationships and coalitions with other progressive organizations in North Dakota.
• Assists in implementing and coordinating miscellaneous Political and Field Department and North Dakota State Federation projects and their components.

Reporting

• Keeps the North Dakota State Federation President fully informed on a regular basis on issues affecting Political programs.
• Prepares and provides reports and accountability to State Federation and National AFL-CIO as requested, and submits regular and ad hoc reports on departmental activities as required (these include long- and short-term planning documents, weekly reports, calendars etc).
• Participates in National AFL-CIO Conference Calls and Meetings
• Accountable for the maintenance and tracking of all program activity and local union information collected into the LAN and My Campaign.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

• Minimum four years political campaign experience is desirable.
• Experience with union leaders and members in political campaigns required.
• Extensive experience in all aspects of political campaigns, including polling, voter files and the membership files.

Skills

• Strong writing, research and communication skills.
• Strong listening and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in high-pressure environment.
• Flexible, creative and highly motivated.
• Ability to work independently within the context of a plan.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
• Ability to use basic word processing, data base programs and e-mail.
• Ability to work long and irregular hours and weekends.
• Ability to travel on a regular basis, sometimes for extended periods of time.
• New Media Skills highly desirable.
