October 21, 2007: 07:00 PM EST

TRINITY, N.C., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sealy , the world's leading bedding manufacturer, has temporarily closed its Green Island, NY plant effective Monday, October 22, 2007. The plant closing is in response to protracted labor negotiations with the U.N.I.T.E. HERE Union Local 1714T.

Sealy has identified multiple facilities which will assume manufacturing operations to service the customer orders. The temporary shutdown of operations is expected to affect 350 employees.

"We are confident that we will come to mutually beneficial terms with the Union," said Mike Hofmann, Executive Vice President, Operations North America. "We expect minimal disruption in our supply chain. We are working hard to end the impasse with the Union as quickly as possible."

Note: This is paid PR by Sealy.
