The nation's newest labor federation, Change to Win, may endorse one of the Democratic presidential primary candidates, the group's chairwoman said Friday.

However, the popularity of the three candidates _ Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards _ means that it is unlikely that a decision will be made soon, chair Anna Burger told reporters.

The Change to Win unions will work together on voter registration and voter education later this year, she said.

"We're talking about doing a kickoff event in March or April around our 2008 campaign efforts," Burger said. "I don't know if that will include a presidential endorsement or not."

Two Change to Win unions already have made choices: UNITE HERE _ which includes the powerful Culinary Workers Union, Local 226 in Nevada _ endorsed Obama and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners endorsed Edwards.

Two-thirds of the seven member unions would have to agree on a single candidate before any endorsement would be made, Burger said.
