http://www.laborradio.org/node/8114Indian workers in Mississippi seeking to file a class action suit against an oil rig construction company are receiving assistance from U.S. Representative George Miller. Jesse Russell:
Rep. George Miller sent a letter to Labor Secretary Elaine Chao on Tuesday seeking information on Signal International, a company that has been accused of treating Indian workers poorly. The workers are seeking a class action lawsuit against the company, which they allege promised them permanent U.S. residency if they came to work in Mississippi and Texas. When they arrived, they say they were subjected to inhumane conditions. The workers began to organize so their complaints would be heard. Signal, according to the workers, then retaliated by hiring armed guards to keep the workers in line. Last week, 120 of the 500 workers walked off the job.
