Kroger, union reach tentative agreement 1,200 workers at 87 stores

Thursday, April 3, 2008 - 1:30 PM EDT

Business First of Louisville

The Kroger Co. said Thursday that it has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 227.

The union represents more than 11,200 workers at 87 stores in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

The previous four-year contract expired at midnight Thursday morning. For the past few weeks, the parties have been negotiating terms on wages, pensions and health benefits.

Details of the new tentative contract are not being released, Cincinnati-based Kroger said in a news release.

Kroger also said the UFCW has agreed to fully recommend the new agreement to its members for ratification.
