Thanks! It's a terrific speech to revisit. I'm listening to it as I write this.

I have never heard any political figure speak of such things in such a way. The only thing that comes close is what I've studied through history, and those are only words without inflection or emotion (with the exception of a few sound bytes). The only ones that come directly to mind are MLK and JFK.
This stands above any Obama speech I've heard before, and nearly every Obama speech I heard before stood above most any other.
Many may not believe this, but I have been hesitant to believe Barack from day one (slick politicians will say anything ya know). I figured he just had to be too good to be true. The sincerity seemed to be there, but I just couldn't buy it yet. I wasn't ready to start vouching for him only to get egg on my face. Especially after I learned more about Wright (however much I might agree with some of his words). My support 'til now has mostly been only on DU and mostly just because I can't stomach Clinton, but I'm so ready to move beyond that.
I'm now convinced. I'll finally start calling, canvassing and slap that Obama '08 sticker on the back of my POS.
This Independent finally has a reason to believe in politics again. Even if he does swing quite to the left of me, and even if he isn't anti-corporatist (he can't be perfect after all).

delivered with great rhetorical flourishes. It was very conversational, but the content--wow! The words just sank into me and stirred my feelings. Making sense. Inspiring hope. Making me feel good to be a fellow traveler on our American journey. He only raised his voice once for the end of one sentence that I remember--and it was just for emphasis. This man has mastery over emotion, a cool man who will be able to operate under difficult circumstances.

|
Listening to that speech reaffirms to me that it was the right decision.
Some say he lacks experience, but if that is true, Barack Obama more than makes up for it in wisdom and judgment. I have not felt so comfortable about a presidential candidate in my adult life, and I am 56 years old.

I think the more speeches he gives, the better. "just a speech" -- sorry for anyone who sees him that way.

The first deed is convince the nation what ails us and what is going to turn us around.
Words are required.
This speech is another step in turning this nation away from the past and toward the future.
I applaud enthusiastically.

the Presidency with that speech.
Amazing candor and insight that usually politicians don't want to talk about.
Glad he called out the RW pudinuts on their career making hatred.
Go Obama!

Watching this man speak just makes Bush look that much worse by comparison. What an amazing difference it would make to have someone like this in the oval office.

That's the best political speech I've heard since the '60s. And the best discussion of our racial conundrum.

After 8 years Bush’s inarticulate, hate-mongering, fear-mongering, lies, it is wonderful to hear pure, simple, truths (even uncomfortable truths) so eloquently expressed.
Dare to hope!

27. Obama just moved beyond politics... |
|
...on other threads you can read comments like "it's just damage control", "he will be damaged goods come November anyway" and all this crap which just seems so silly after watching this speech.
It's not only a speech but he has "the message". Few months ago, listening to old MLK and JFK speeches I wondered if there is anyone in our time to compare and now I know there is.
Please, America, don't pass up this chance.

28. "That speech was just a bunch of words." |
|
I can hear the Clinton response already.
Here's a tip, Hillary. ALL speeches are words. Your whole campaign is also nothing but words.
It isn't about the eloquence, although it will surely be nice to have a President who can form a complete sentence containing a complete thought.
It is about the values. The values he talks about are simply foreign to career apparatchiks.
Instead of talking who can be most politically expedient, his words are about what is right.
Just words. Just words, indeed.

|
he's a fucking hypocrite.
plain and simple..
why we don't have better choices than radical religious obama and radical religious hillary I really don't know.
wasn't the 2nd amendment just that for a reason, it was #2 in the founders mind of what a government needed to be.
I'm sick of obama thinking he can be a leader on race relations when he has failed the gay community so miserably on his campaign trail.
good luck at the convention. you've lost a lot of us gay types.. obama..
