http://blog.aflcio.org/2008/03/28/denver-union-members-greet-mccain-who-has-no-plan-to-address-foreclosure-crisis/

Mike Cerbo, executive director of the Colorado AFL-CIO, describes how he and area union members greeted Sen. John McCain outside a ritzy fund-raising event, demanding to know why McCain’s plan to fix the nation’s mortgage crisis is to blame homeowners.

Hearing chants of “Stop Foreclosures,” John McCain passed a group of 50 union activists on his way to a $1,000-a-plate fund-raiser at the Petroleum Club in Denver. Holding giant “Turn Around America” signs, dozens of union members from AFSCME, AFGE, APWU, ATU, CWA, IBEW, SMWIA, UA and USW greeted the senator from Arizona.

The crowd heard from Denver resident Linda Donna, 55, who has been severely impacted by the foreclosure crisis. She was a victim of a “bait and switch” tactic—she originally was promised a lower interest rate, but at the last minute, the lender raised it.

Said Donna:

The market is upside-down, and so many of us have had our property value plummet below the purchase value of the home. McCain has no plan to deal with this crisis.

Meanwhile, members of the grassroots group Progress Now in Colorado, holding “Is McCain for Sale?” signs, held a press conference demanding that he return oil PAC donations ahead of his Denver Petroleum Club appearance.

It’s appropriate that McCain’s venue for the visit is the Petroleum Club. In the Senate, McCain has opposed efforts to curb windfall profit for crude oil companies. McCain twice voted against imposing a temporary tax on oil companies’ windfall profits and using the proceeds to provide a tax rebate for consumers.

If elected, McCain plans to embark on a corporate tax-cutting spree, and he’d give nearly $4 billion in tax cuts to the top five oil companies. When it comes to rewarding big oil at the expense of working families and the budget, McCain is the McSame as Bush.
