HIV is a very old disease, presenting as SIV in one species of green monkey hunted for bush meat. Transmission likely occurred many times in the past, but was limited to small groups who died of the disease rather quickly. Only the advent of roads plus the breakdown of the social system in Africa through colonization allowed the disease to break out of a small geographical area and spread across the continent and to the rest of the world.

The doctor in question used a completely different species of monkey and stated so many, many times. Conspiracy buffs always ignore him, preferring to flog their theories rather than adapt them to an inconvenient truth.

Virologists studying the rate of mutation in the virus have estimated the species jump that resulted in the present day virus in humans happened between 1909 and 1930, well before the polio research in question was done.

All of this stuff is out on the net. I suggest that instead of relying on articles in the Rolling Stone, people research this disease in scientific journals.

The comments section in these videos is frightening. Ignorance leads to fear and fear is making stupid people stupider.
