I've never heard that colloquialism and I plan to use it quite a bit, with your permission. Hahahahaha! Thx LakeSamish. It's been a year or so of trying to find the right word to describe the moran that is Kevin James and the rest of the 'em. You served up perfection. Cheers!

80. I have to defend Kevin James.
Edited on Fri May-16-08 10:31 AM by King Coal
He can't help it, they give him these talking points (i.e. "appeasement", "energize/legitimatize", "speak from strength"), and then send them out with a blank slate. Since Kevin is my client, he pleads guilty. He asking for mercy and promises to sell shoes from now on. Catalog sales only.

In all honesty, I don't feel one bit sorry for him. He doesn't care about truth, in fact, he shuns it. Piss on him. Just another Moroni Moran looking in his hat and talking out his ass.

I'm still boycotting ABC over that ignorant piece of crap.

I had to change the channel because I couldn't take this excitable guy. I thought I had stumble over to Faux for a minute there!

Guess he thought he needed to make an impression since he made it to the big-time by being on MSNBC and 'Hardball'. No way will he be asked to return. Of course he'll blame Mathews and the liberal media for not being able to handle the truth. Gee, if they'd only watched movies like him, they all would be just as intelligently informed!

19. Mr. James wasted everybody's time
No, he obviously knows nothing about history and we need look no further than his citing of The Path to 911 as a source of information to understand why he knows nothing.

He might be able to get away with that on right wing hate radio, where the listeners who call in are no better informed than he, but he can't take that show on the road like he just tried. Oh, to be a fly on the wall when Matthews had a word with his booking agent after that segment.

On an old timer note: when I lived in the Los Angeles area (late sixties/early seventies), KRLA was a pretty good rock station with an imaginative, entertaining (and left-leaning) news team called the Credibility Gap. How long have they been putting this idiot on the air?

28. I do too. He can be really frustrating at times but he has moments of clarity.
And when he does, they are usually very worthwhile. His sparring with Buchanan yesterday was fairly epic, and lets not forget that he was opposed to the war from the beginning. He can blow with the wind, he is completely unreliable, but he's also a fairly interesting character who can really surprise you from time to time.

95. I absolutely love Tweety...
I think he's one of the best in the business. He really does call out
bullshit when he hears it--coming from both sides.

I don't know how many people read the big article on Tweety, that was in
the New York Times Magazine a couple of weeks ago. Tweety really isn't
a big insider. He kind of operates on the outer edges.

I really love him, and I think he's terrific.

This interview is pretty much par for the course for Tweety...he'll
call bullshit on anyone, and he does it with a smile on his face. He's
a very skilled, likable interviewer!

Kevin James was made to look like a fool. I'm not an expert but I know that Neville Chamberlain made the mistake of giving Hiler what he wanted. If you look at the Bush adminstration Bush gave Osama bin Ladin what he wanted. Osama wanted US troops out of Saudi Arabia, he got that because they are all in Iraq. He wanted Saddam Hussien overthrown and a non-secular government in Iraq, we did that for him also. We gave Osama what he wanted just like Chamberlain gave Hitler what he wanted.

Right there is the extent of thought in the Right Wing punditocracy. They all get the fax that says "today's word is 'appeasement'" and they just run with it, hoping no one asks them simple, pointed questions.

I love how his voice cracks when he realizes Tweety's made an ass of him. Like he's getting an atomic wedgie or something. :spray:

47. I really have to hand it to Matthews. When a RW talking head goes off like James,
the host needs to call his/her bluff. It rarely ever happens. This was a treat watching Matthews calling his bluff. When interviewing these idiots, you have to tell them to give specifics and not just the general rhetoric that Karl Rove faxed them earlier in the day.

James was really getting desperate, going back to the old standby--it's all Bill Clinton's fault.

These RW radio hosts always sound so powerful when they're running their shows because they can filter dissenting opinions and make it look like they have all of the answers and everyone's behind them. This has gone on too long and the country has been going through a systematic dumbing down process because of it.

We need to save this video and use it as an example of how radio has deteriorated in the last 15 years or so. James had no substance to his case. Just yell and blather rhetoric. Notice that the other guest was sitting calmly. He came across as more secure about his beliefs. Whenever you have to yell and blurt out rhetoric, you come across as the idiot that you are.

Talking over everyone and spouting his ignorance. Sadly, the mindless ones only hear what he says--my boss being one of the mindless ones. They swallow this bilge whole and don't even know what "appeasement" means. And of course they don't know history. Matthews should have shut off the idiot's mic and let the other fellow talk.

72. But this is what the rw and their noise machine ...
have been doing for how long now...25 years or so. They are rude and ignorant but very loud bullies. And because they are so loud, which helps disguise some of the ignorance, people think that there are many of them. There are many on the air that is true. On the ground, they really are not that large a part of the population but because they are so loud and so rude, people think that they are many. Remember, most of the time, if you stand up to bullies, they will leave. No one has been standing up to them for much too long. It would be wonderful if this began a trend of rational people challenging the ignorance of rw hate talkers and all of their associated bullies.

I'll admit it, I hadn't heard of Kevin James before this. When I heard about this, I honestly thought they were talking about the actor Kevin James, thinking "what qualifies him to be commenting on this subject?" But after seeing that, Kevin James the actor is about as qualified as Kevin James the RW ignorant asshole to be commenting on a subject such as this.

BTW, anyone who has studied any history in school should remember the phrase "peace in our time" attributed to Neville Chamberlain. Appeasement means giving in to what an adversary wants to appease, placate, pacify and satisfy him/her in hopes of avoiding confrontation. Quite different than just talking. Neville Chamberlain was completely naive. Even his successor, Winston Churchill, was in favor of talking and negotiating. One of his quotes that I remember was this: "Jaw, Jaw is better than War, War". Unfortunately, Chamberlain's complete appeasement and capitulation to Hitler, giving him what he wanted, whetted Hitler's appetite for even more territory. Chamberlain's problem was that he failed to see Hitler's designs on Europe and the world, something that anyone with half a brain could have figured out.

That being said, we need to get this distinction out there. There is a vast difference between talking to an adversary and giving him what he wants. Obama and his people need to hit back hard on this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_for_our_time

Edited to add another link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Agreement

I can remember studying this in world history in high school and college. Where did this idiot go to school??

He's obviously a bright guy and knows perfectly well the difference between right and wrong. He also recognizes that the job of a journalist isn't just to repeat what people say (or give them a platform to speak), but also to analyze the facts and point out errors.

So the question you have to ask is why he decides to do the right thing when it's some back-bench right-wing nobody he's interviewing, but then stands idly by while the subjects of his man-crushes continue to mislead?

79. It was impressive, I have to admit, but
Edited on Fri May-16-08 10:27 AM by Time for change
that doesn't change my very low opinion of Tweety.

Tweety has done so many nasty and grossly unfair hit jobs on Democratic candidates that I will never trust him. Just recently, he made a big deal point out of his opinion that Obama is not a "regular guy" because he ordered orange juice instead of coffee in a diner, and because he's apparently a poor bowler. He pointed out that much of Obama's support comes from African Americans and highly educated "elite" white people, and then he asked his guest why Obama can't get more support among "regular people".

He also did hit job after hit job on Al Gore, repeating lie after lie about him, and claiming that Gore would "lick the bathroom floor" to be President. I feel sure that it cost Gore the election.

So, why does Tweety occasionally do good things, like in this interview? Perhaps he's received a lot of flack for his recent hit jobs on Obama, so he had to restore a little bit of credibility. No doubt he is talented -- but he is still a snake.

107. I love what he did to Kevin James
It was skillfully done, and it was the right way to handle him.

But admitting that doesn't mean that I have to trust Chris Matthews or else consider myself a hypocrite.

Saying that Kevin James doesn't know what he's talking about was perfectly appropriate, rude or not. Here's a guy that goes on national TV and tries to make a presidential candidate out to be an "appeaser", when he apparently doesn't even know the meaning of the word or the context in which he was using it. He deserves to be shown up for what he is, and he deserves to have his miserable career destroyed. Matthews was right to do what he did to him.

But was he right to call Obama an "elitist" for drinking orange juice, being a poor bowler, and attracting educated white voters to his campaign. HELL NO!!!!

And saying that doesn't make us hypocrites.

Don't get me wrong, I was delighted to see this little right wing creep get eviscerated in front of a national audience. It was entertaining and well deserved.

My issue, though, is that Matthews only confronts second tier players. He is like a schoolyard bully who only beats up on the little kids. Where is the pointed follow up for the Clinton and Bush spinners. When Matthews holds their feet to the fire, I'll be impressed.
