I posted some Byron DeLear highlights from this amazing conversation a couple of weeks ago. Today I put their entire talk up on YouTube and it is really worth watching if you can find the time as it was a real pleasure watching these two intellectuals cover so much ground.

Also, if you are even half as impressed as I was with Byron DeLear, please consider making a small contribution to his campaign at http://www.delearforcongress.org/ since he is up against one of the worst Bush cronies and warmongers in the country. We must support progressive candidates who will bring the war to an end and uphold our Constitution.

Part 1 (above):
Topics covered include: restoring representative democracy, big money and lobbyists, FDR, Gore Vidal's grandfather and his first experience with racism.

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTSYuNNGHb0
Topics covered include: Missouri Compromise, Missouri Senator Jim Reed, Missouri's penchant for picking the president, DeLear's endorsement of Barack Obama, the Missouri primary, gerrymandering, the need for Democrats to become the values party in opposition to the GOP money party.

Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcrYarJ2lv8
Topics covered include: Hillary as president, John Quincy Adams, Iraq policy, American empire, the Presidential Seal and the circus like atmosphere of the presidential election.

Part 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ct3t2g8PGek
Topics covered include: Military industrial congressional complex, President Lincoln, select money interests and lobbyists, media reform and the HELPME Act, the radical change in the country's philosophy under Bush and impeachment.

Part 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1Dplvr0yJ0
Topics covered include: Israel/Palestine peace, Jimmy Carter, warmongers, debt, treasonous Congress, Bush and Big Oil.

2. That Byron De Lear sounds a great guy. I also think he'd make a great
character in a spaghetti western.

Like all politicians, if it comes to that, I suppose, all the characters in Spaghetti westerns are mean, ornery rogues of one stamp or another, and Byron's got mean eyes, but, like the good guys in the spaghetti westerns, if you get my drift! A certain magnanimity of spirit. You'd want him fighting your corner in the corridors of power. Not so much, "Set a thief to catch a thief", as "Set a Monco to catch a Loco!

5. I particularly liked his, "They were elected to serve, not to sell!" And judging by
Gore's almost startled reaction, he liked it, too.
