The costs of war are hard to calculate. Ripples that run through generations of families. The toll taken on our children and their children's children are incalculable.

May our sons and daughters never again be abused as they have by the Bush administration and a nation of ignorant and gullible stooges.

A necessary evil. But let's never marginalize the toll it takes.

1. Wonderful commentary, Frank. Very moving
You so eloquently state what I and many believe. Still, there are those around who would say that you are "un-American" because of your beliefs about this administration and the war. Thanks again for your wonderful message, and I will think of your dad in particular on this Memorial Day.

James

3. I second that statement.
What's really sad is that if this same crap was thrown on the country under Clinton or any other Democratic administration, these same people who claim to support our troops would be so livid that their heads would have exploded.

If people were half as loyal to their religion if they are to their politics, this whole country would be up for sainthood.

5. A Little More Background
Edited on Sun May-25-08 10:41 AM by theFrankFactor
Thank you James. This segment ran 13 minutes when I first recorded it. I included the details of my fathers service at Normandy. It was not my father who was killed but my mothers first husband. My dad was wounded after repeatedly leading the soldiers landing on Utah Beach through minefields.

My mothers first husband concealed a heart condition to serve in WWII. He took a bayonet to the neck. Severely wounded, he continued to collect ammunition from dead soldiers on the battlefield because they were running out and could not reach supply. He was eventually shot. My mother was never the same. She fought depression and bitterness the rest of her life.

The psychological toll on my father was very severe as well.

I am not naively ant-war, neither am I pro-war. I just think that we have sanitized and censored it, and doing so is a slap in the face to those who bravely serve. It is a very, very costly and gave decision to place our (or any) soldiers in to combat.

I am appalled at the lack of coverage of the Winter Soldier event. Very disappointing.

Thanks Again.
-=Frank

6. Privatization Clarification
I understand war makes people rich and always has but the level of private involvement through the Bush administration and the Republican party is unprecedented. Blackwater's greatest profits are tied directly to the continuation of warfare.
