All of the "promoting abstinence" programs were proven ineffective, so many states abandoned them.
Abstinence-Only Programs Under FireMay 7, 2008
Chicago—Over the past decade, the US federal government has heavily promoted programs that advocate sexual abstinence as the key strategy for dealing with adolescent sexuality,
but studies are demonstrating that the approach has little impact on teen sexual behavior or in preventing pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). As a result, health professionals and government officials are working to end the programs and to expand funding for other types of sexual education initiatives, and many states have refused federal funding for abstinence-only programs. http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/extract/299/17/2013You speak of bringing prayer into public schools, yet your next sentence states that "we should respect the values of our fellow citizens."
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. What if your "fellow citizens" are not religious or of another religion other than yours?
Ever hear of "Separation of Church and State?"Here is a refresher:
The separation of church and state is a legal and political principle derived from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ." The phrase "separation of church and state", which does not appear in the Constitution itself, is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state_in_the_United_StatesBTW....I'm Catholic and believe in the Separation of Church and State. No one should have to follow/practice/pray according to my religious beliefs (or that of others) in a public school.
Look what has happened to our Country over the past 8 years when "Church and State" became entangled.
