Absolutely frightening. So basically, they are saying with a wink and a nod that she infiltrated successfully. Why is nobody looking into this further? This is completely outrageous and is bordering on sedition, I would say. Any thinking Democrat OR Republican should be outraged at this. Why is everyone buying this bullshit story they put out when here they are ON CAMERA saying it?

And someone further down thread asked if that was Todd Palin on the laptop? I don't really know but I am thinking of producing a tighter video of this with the choice bits, zoomed in further, mainly because this is a lot of video and I don't really know if it keeps the attention of the low-attention-span voter, sadly. It needs to be spruced up (please don't use that Requiem For A Dream music though, anyone who may take this on aside from me -- not using background music is best because you won't be able to hear what's being said otherwise) and uploaded in a more compact version, with clear, accurate subtitles so people can see what is being said. THEN, the smaller video can go viral, hopefully. It should also contain Sarah Palin praising them and saying good luck or whatever she said. People need visual proof and all. :)

What I don’t find is a single article dealing with the fact that Sarah Palin WAS a member of the secessionist Alaska Independence Party (AIP). This is not some “strange internet rumor . . . cascading over the lower 48 states” as your reporter Nathan Thornburgh derisively calls it in your September 4, 2008 edition. I just read the AIP platform. They most definitely support secession, but I don't see anything there about kicking out all gays, Jews, etc. The platform talks about returning the land to Alaskans, which I take to include the native tribes as well. Did I miss something? Is it somewhere else on their website, or perhaps in other writings? Can someone post a source for the "straight whites only" issue that you're referring to?

But secession does not equal racism. There is a case to be made that Alaskans should have been allowed to vote upon the issue of annexation of the territory into the union as a state. It seems to me that they actually have a good argument for their case, though it is an issue that most Americans (and probably most Alaskans) would consider a settled issue by now. But it is not the same thing as believing that a separate Alaskan nation should be formed in order to exclude certain demographic groups.

The AIP may be a fringe group, but I don't see any visible evidence that they are a racist fringe group. The fact that the Palins support a group that is pushing for the secession of their state from the union is enough to me to question whether or not she should be elected as Vice President of that union of states. For her opponents to try to connect an unrelated issue to this group's agenda is nothing but a distraction.

"What could have been the confusion—her husband was a member of the party. He was at the convention. She could have been considered—it might have been thought she was a member then." Talking Points Memo has reported that Todd Palin was a member of the AIP from 1995 to 2002, with the exception of a short period in 2000 when he was undeclared.

Chyrson said he did not remember seeing Sarah Palin at the 1994 convention: "I don't, no. I was working behind the scenes. Back then I was only vaguely familiar with her. I would not have recognized her. I had just met her. I probably would not have recognized her." He added that Sarah Palin did not play "an active role in the party" or to speak out for its causes.

Not being registered as an AIP member did not keep some Alaskans from being supporters of the party and its aims. Jack Coghill, the lieutenant governor of Alaska from 1990 to 1994 and a candidate for governor in 1994 on the AIP ticket, told Mother Jones that being friendly with the AIP and a registered Republican was "common" in the 1990s. Might Palin had had a similar relationship with the party? Given her husband's long-time membership in the group, Palin was likely aware of the group's tenets. And in 2008, as governor, she submitted a welcoming video to the AIP convention in Fairbanks. "Your party plays an important role in our state's politics," she said.
