4. The divide in our country is not mainly "liberal" versus "Conservative" |
|
The rift is in another direction altogether: fascism, which is EXACTLY what this bailout represents -- to the letter of the textbook definition.
I agree with Kucinich completely. There ought to be a way that sensible people can find a way forward without capitulating to the bankers.
The conservatives might not be in favor of helping the people who are losing their homes. I'm not crazy enough to believe we will ever see eye to eye at that level. But the proposal of a user fee (i.e. tax on stock transactions) makes a lot more sense than penalizing people that had nothing to do with the problem.
The problem, of course, is that this is not the game Bush is playing. The entire purpose of this drama is to feed hundreds of billions in profits to the bankers. That is why Bush and Paulson would never consider these other alternatives. If such a bill ever got momentum, you'd see Bush coming and announcing "Guess what, the economy is fixing itself, so don't bother passing that other bill."

Dennis Kucinich's wife was quoted a while ago as saying Ron Paul was the right wing and Dennis Kucinich the left wing of the ole American eagle. Congratulations to Pete DeFazio our esteemed and dauntless local Congresscritter for spearheading this too. May the old beatup bedraggled eagle take wing. It's a grassroots Revolution, from both the Left and the Right. Dennis is right, it is a moral question - and one that we all may have to sacrifice for. What profiteth a man, that he gain the whole world and lose his soul....
