1. They seem so reserved. Understandable. Makes me switch to thinking about

our kids who have already returned, but with mental problems. Has anyone read anything about them? Any families reporting on how the election outcome has affected their children?

And what about the ones with physical hurts? Any stories.

5. That "reserve" that you mention, not only is more professional
(particularly with cameras around) but there could actually be some blowback to an Army guy or gal who expresses their political beliefs.

The military is supposed to be a thoroughly independent arm of the U.S. government, so even though we all know that the servicefolks in Iraq gave to and supported Obama in reportedly huge numbers, I'm sure that is a fact kept quiet and only expressed among other individuals that you know that you can trust not to rat you out to your superiors.

7. I suspected that. Thanks for sharing. I hope they have a good party when
they get to do it freely.

9. The one guy who was visibly excited about Obama struck me most.
He looked so young. In retrospect, perhaps he looked so innocent because he was the only one who missed the training you mentioned.

I will be glad when they are home.

10. No. Reserved.
As mentioned upstream, they would be reluctant to how they really feel, as possible blowback could occur.

6. It's not a rally - it's their place of work
Imagine watching it at work... there are people of all stripes and it's not appropriate to alienate your coworkers by going crazy.

12. most troops support...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw6wm3msjb0

Guessing that most don't want to express their feelings either way because there is a lot of 'good ol boy' attitude for McCain supporters in the military who would exact revenge in one way or another. I'm from a military family and the Republican hate is pretty powerful stuff and McCain-Palin stoked it with the terrorist-pal theme and that has to affect those on the front lines dealing with real terrorists.

Believe me, from a Republican military family, everyone in my family is still hating on Obama until something else comes along as a target. It's built in to their system and you can't adjust attitudes overnight that have been burned into minds over a lifetime. Younger people will change the face of this for America, we will get to see it continue.
