1. I'd like to know of one time when Obama has ever advocated equal rights. |
|
I can't think of any. I can think of plenty of times when he's advocated separate rights and plenty of times when he has endorsed the view that marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman, but no times when he has publicly stated his support for actual equal rights.

I take your point, but this statement itself is such an instance.

3. The only thing Obama can do now |
|
can only cause more trouble for him. The only thing he can do (other than rescind the invitation) is to be explicit in his remarks at the inauguration that he totally disagrees with Warren's public statements. that he is strongly pro-choice, and that he will begin his presidency with a series of gay and lesbian rights initiatives including inclusion in the military and right to marriage.
Anything short of that will be ... well, short of what we hoped he would be. All this could have been avoided. He could have worked behind the scenes and done all the political intrigue without being so public. But he has publicly called on a bigot as his minister for a day. It was a dumb and careless mistake. It will take forthright action to counter.

Sure, Warren's an ass. Not what liberals want. But it's a bloody invocation..you know, a prayer.
I've read quite a few comments on this site, and I be willing to bet that the majority on DU do not believe in a god, and rightly so. So I don't get what the big deal is. If Obama sees this as a way to tap into the evangelical youth, and perhaps, get them be more open to progressive causes, so be it. Also, Warren is not in Obama's cabinet, he's giving a 10 minute invocation. As long as that's it and he walks off stage, whatever.
Like Olbermann & Harwood pointed out tonight, as far as governing goes (what matters) this means fuck all. Get a helmet, Liberals.

as well as being an idiot.
I'm not sure why people think this is policy. Is he never supposed to associate with someone who disagrees with us on gay marriage? Honestly, take a xanax.
