2. the 'collective yawn' of the nation, of us, of our leaders. |

YET, i ask anyone tell me what they would do if they were in-charge, and they had someone who knew an atom-bomb was about to explode in THEIR city. if it was my city, i might be very grateful - legal or not.

The odds of us knowing that someone was about to explode an atomic bomb in our city before it happened is beyond astronomical. I believe such a concept is born of war-mongering neocon bastards. Don't go for the ole banana-in-the-tail-pipe routine. You have other real things to worry about. The idea that our guvmint has a nuclear terrorist in custody and they can torture him until he tells us where the ticking nuclear bomb is located, is absolutely ridiculous and nothing more than a plotline to a "24" television show. The directors of the CIA and the FBI have BOTH said torture has NEVER produced ANY viable results whatsoever!
Bush, Cheney, Rice and the others are simply lying their neocon asses off when they say they culled information from Guantanamo terrorists that "saved lives." Bullshit! It's just not true.

Saves me the trouble of educating one who would appear to be posting from a very small bus on the way to a very special school.
Welcome to DU from another advocate of that "god damn piece of paper".:hi:
Hypotheticals are great fun for the special needs citizens, others know what the inevitable real world result of abuses of power have always been.
Torture is ineffective, cruel and against domestic as well as international laws. If we are a nation of laws there can be no exceptions for our leaders.
The moment of truth approaches and we shall soon see if we still live in a constitutional democracy.

If I knew he knew for certain, knew something about him, about his life, beliefs and behaviors, he would sing in no time without recourse to torture. If I knew he knew for certain, I and didn't know anything else, he would sing like a bird in no time, maybe after a little persuasion. If I didn't already know he knew for sure, the second scenario would be pointless, because he would say whatever he thought I wanted to hear. In neither case would I know he was telling the truth until I checked it out before the fact, or if I time ran out, after the fact.:nuke:

6. nice to see that at least one person can respond w/o insulting. |

i guess provoking thought, or, god forbid, disagreeing around here runs the risk of offending those who have been anointed as the truth-tellers. if you folks want to argue a point of view, you should learn to react without getting pissed, and, not to exaggerate. it works much better that way. by the way, i am also against torture.

Come on. We cannot let them KEEP getting away with war crimes and torture. It has been proven that torture only gets the torturee to say what they think the torturer wants to hear.
I say Impeach. Prosecute. Try. Convict. Imprison them for this.
