Artists who are part of social change seem overly represented in the pantheon of fallen heroes. While they may or may not deliberately seek social reform, their artistic contributions seem to drive social trends. Why do these icons become unwitting martyrs? Is it their very tendency to go against the grain that leads to their downfall? Anyway, these were the thoughts I had when I was writing this song.

It's like he'd never gone.
Heroes die alone
Loved by millions who
they never knew...

2. Lennon was shot, but it's no coincidence that it was Lennon

and not McCartney or Ringo. He just had that against-the-grain tendency that seems to put those types in the cross-hairs.
