1. Well, that's a point of view |

And maybe Brother Rather is at a point he doesn't want to make any more enemies. But I'd say he has the formula upside down. Bloggers aren't driving this change. The rise of blogging as new source has evolved of necessity as the classic news sources gradually and systematically turned themselves into anything but news. Brother Rather mentions that, but doesn't seem very eager to thank the selfless people who are stepping in, usually at great personal expense, do fill the void.
I think it would be more accurate and blunt to say that "TV news" is a complete wasteland. The only TV outlets (with few exceptions) that are providing an informed, thoughtful presentation of the new are on Comedy Central, for chrissakes. It is a sad state of affairs with the satire news programs are more informative about the important events of the day than the "real news programs".
I think the situation is different in newspapers. That is mainly a problem of economics. There is still a lot of good newspaper reporting going on that is insightful and helpful to our democracy. But the staffs are getting leaner every year. I see the blog sources are complementary to what remains of the newspaper reporting. Newspapers are not the enemy. Teevee is the problem.
