Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern went on Tucker Carlson's show this afternoon and pretty directly accused Vice President Dick Cheney of being behind the Niger forgeries. The reasons for suspicion are plenty. But having reported on this story in minute detail I've yet to find any direct evidence to substantiate that charge. But McGovern says he has evidence ...

why Cheney flipped-out big time after Tweety began questioning where the Niger forgeries came from. This is why he began smearing Wilson, leaking Plame's name, etc. I'm almost convinced that Cheney either helped create the forgeries, or knew the forgers.

Micheal Ledeen, whose activities in connection with the Niger Fogeries were cronicled by Vanity Fair last year, although they did stop just short of fingering Ledeen as the man behind the mask, they came quite close.

I don't want to dismiss what McGovern is saying. It is very possible.

However, there is a market for documents that arose long before Dick Cheney was dodging the Vietnam War. Like any market, it attracks hucksters and crooks selling bad merchandise. Which brings up the next question: Did Cheney have to order a forged document from the printer if he wanted one?

If Cheney order this one made up, he should get his money back.

Just to drop a name, the fellow we can say is involved in this scheme is one Rocco Martino, an Italian information peddler and former agent of Italian intelligence. A warning to all is that, like Bush and Cheney themselves, nothing Martino says should be taken at face value without independent verification.

I just caught the end of Lautenberg saying that Cheney STILL has his Halliburton stock options and they don't expire until 2009.

Is Cheney satan? I believe he wanted this war since the first gulf war. I believe he wanted to be president himself, and had to settle for a sock puppet. I believe he had to sweeten the deal with bailing out Dresser for papa. Bush came in with this war cabinet fully in place, while MISLEADING the public about who he was and what he intended to do. Sept. 11th was the trifecta. That Cheney still holds stock, has so blatantly disregarded the law, sent Americans to die while he held a financial interest in this corporate looting..... really, he should be hung after he's tried.
