The pain in this woman's voice and her memories of being treated so unjustly is one of the saddest things. I got chills watching her. To think her fellow Americans inflicted this pain upon her, is mind- boggling. She like many other minorities carry those scars with them for life. My mother grew up in the south, being a Native American she too has stories of being mistreated.

Yet she came away still believing that most people are generally good. She doesn't harbor any hate or animosity towards those who tried to oppress her. She says she voted for Obama because he was the best candidate, not because he's a minority. The election of Obama is a reminder of how far we've come, the campaign was a reminder of how far we have yet to go.

3. Recommended.
She expressed herself well and told it the way it was and how so many are so proud of this declaration of change.

4. When I hear "God Bless America"...this is what our country can become.
I'm so happy for US.....all the citizens of this nation. It's about time...but it's finally happening.

THIS is the time to come together. I know there are those who want President Obama to fail, but F*CK them!! There are the rest of us that want this country to be all it can be. GO Obama!!

10. i do believe we have come so very far in this struggle against racism...
Edited on Mon Jan-12-09 12:06 PM by mt13
but i am realistic in the fact that we still have a very long road to hoe. i do not want to be afraid for the Obama family but i am. history dictates that fear in me. education is the key to overcoming racism and our education system is hardly where it should be in order to achieve that. i hope we can get on the right track with education and soon. ignorance is not bliss, it is frightening.
