Tweety: Let's stick to journalism. I don't do that here. If it's just blogging let's drop it.

On "Hardball" Thursday, Chris Matthews issued a stern rebuke to NY Daily News reporter Liz Benjamin when she cited blogs on the possible "affair question" with regard to Caroline Kennedy's withdrawal from consideration for the New York Senate seat.

Earlier in the segment Matthews speculated that the 'personal problem' that was given as Kennedy's reason for withdrawing was her marriage to Edwin Schlossberg. But when Benjamin said that the "affair question" was surfacing on blogs, Matthews abruptly cut her off: "Let's stick to journalism. I don't do that here. If it's just blogging let's drop it."

1. Yea. BUT, not long after that, when talking to another guest
he inserted the gossip into his question.

Tweety's full of shite. Either use it or don't but don't smack down the gossiper then turn around and insert it into subsequent interviews.

2. bloggers reporting a Kennedy affair are "sources" for Repukes, but
quoting actual McCain campaign staffers' concerns about John McCain's interactions with a woman are "fabrications" ...

4. But Tweety teased this segment with those very rumors.
This youtube vid needs editing to add the bumper/teaser Chris did just before they cut to a commercial right before that segment.

He gleefully teased the segment with the very rumors he pretends to abhor during the segment. Later on, he inserts the very same rumors into a discussion.

He's pathetic.

5. If he doesn't keep on top of what blogs are saying, he's worthless as a commentator.
100 yrs ago newspapers dismissed radio, 50 yrs ago newspapers & radio dismissed television, 25 yrs ago newspapers, radio & television dismissed cable.

And as time went on, each type of media in turn became less important.

6. He definitely keeps on top of them, because a few track his movements...
...Media Matters has provided a running archive of Matthews Moments such as his declaration that Bush "sometimes has a sunny nobility"...and blogs like Crooks & Liars and many others will then pick it up and run with it...so I'm convinced that Tweety's assertion that blogs don't represent "serious" journalism has more than a little to do with the fact that blogs often question his own status as a "serious journalist."

In the best scenario, Matthews comes across in the "Blogosphere" as a "serious journalist" one minute and a swooning teenager, daydreaming about Fred Thompson's "dad" smell, the next. It's not character assassination. It's simply direct quotes and video clips.

7. It is a mixed bag. On DU, first sources are often cited and linked. This isn't Drudge sludge.

8. When "Hardball" comes on the teevee
that's my cue to put the harness on my darling chihuahua and take her for a nice walk and then feed her before "Countdown." I've given up on Tweety.
