1. Archie was a lovable bigot |
|
because Carrol O'Connor's genius was to make us see the frightened man beneath the bluster.
Limbaugh is just a bigot.

I loved watching that show with my parents, and seeing it now really cheers me up. Genius acting. It doesn't get any better than that!

3. Anyone remember who Carroll O' Connor supported in the 1972 Democratic primaries? |
|
It was a man who Nixon didn't want to run against even though he was paranoid about everyone.

4. Unfortunately, no Democrat was going to win that election. |
|
Which shows just how nuts Nixon was. I mean, why get all worked up about a possible opponent when your approval ratings are in the 60s? Then beyond that, he goes and bugs the DNC even though his lead in the polls was extremely large at that point.
He was completely paranoid and batshit insane.

5. It was the first election in which I could vote and the first candidate for whom I worked, |
|
and Nixon much preferred to run against McGovern than former New York mayor John Lindsey.

But I don't think any of them could have defeated Nixon.
He was very popular in 1972, extremely popular, and while the races might have been closer, I think Nixon wins.
