The DNC has its new video up today. Two Wrongs don't Make a Right. Cheney and Rumsfeld are the Two Wrongs.

"The Democratic National Committee has released a new web ad just days after President Bush said both Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Cheney "are doing fantastic jobs and I strongly support them." Bush even went as far as to say he wants them to remain on until the end of his presidency. Despite their numerous faulty predictions and assertions, President Bush remains completely loyal to two architects of his failed Iraq policy."

3. You Tube...you have to double click.
I just checked it, and it's working for me.

Here, I will just post the link to the You Tube. Not embedded. Sometimes that works.

4. There's nothing to click
It's not what you did, it's something wrong with my computer. I was hoping someone might know what went haywire. It's weird because I haven't had this problem until just a little while ago. The same thing is happening with YouTUBE, both the link and even the home page. Nothing but whiteness. I'll reboot and see if it doesn't kick something in.

9. But this is a web ad, so they're preaching to the choir
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 10:24 AM by DeeDeeNY
It's a great and effective ad, but how many will see it who need to see it?
And even if some brainwashed sheeple did see it, it might need to be spelled out for them that even though Bush isn't running, the message of the ad is that they have to vote out those who rubber-stamp his policies to get anything changed.

10. this was weak
yes, it has the clips of them proclaiming such bullshit statements as "greeted as liberators", but it doesn't say WHAT needs done, and if the general public, which is surely 90% of the population, doesn't fully understand what you're asking of them, then it's useless.

Yes, we know Bush sucks, yes, we know Cheney sucks, yes, we know Rummy sucks, but what does this ad want us to do?

It's too long, and not clear on its intent.

Good point DDNY! Nearly all of the people that see it are people like us... we've already made our minds up, to effect swing votes it needs to be 30 seconds or less and have a point, but this is a web only ad and doesn't do that at all. I made good 30 & 60 second clips on youtube that rival this one, and I would've thought that the DNC would do better and have more thought in their effort.

12. Sometimes you can restrict your argument to devastating your opponent's.
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 12:37 PM by BurtWorm
This does that extremely effectively by juxtaposing their banal words against the awful truth. It's a brilliant piece of argument. You can fault it for having limited reach, maybe. On the other hand, you can forward it to fence-sitters. That's the beauty of a Web ad. It's not just passively received. It can be used as the viewer chooses to use it.

17. It's a cheap ad to shore up their base, which doesn't need shoring.
Besides preaching to the choir, it isn't even that smart. And that annoying music (clearly composed with two Acid Music loops endlessly repeated) shows slapdash production.

If the DNC and the DLC must spend their money on web ads, instead of on TV ads that might swing the voters they need to win the election, they must learn to make them interesting and funny. "Viral videos" spread because they have both truth and intrinsic entertainment value. This spot doesn't. A far better effort is the Asylum Street Spankers video of "Stick Magnetic Ribbons On Your SUV", one of the most popular videos run here...

18. That's a funny video, but how can you think THAT talks less to the choir than this one?
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 03:00 PM by BurtWorm
Did you forward that one to your great aunt who doesn't like the war but can't bring herself to vote for a Democrat because she's been a Republican all her life? Did it work? *Would* it work on someone like that? Wouldn't she just think she was being asked to watch a bunch of dirty hippies disrespecting the troops?

This ad is effective because it uses the words of the two main architects of the Republican war on Iraq and shows them up to be either lies or delusions. No other interpretation is possible unless you are lying or deluded yourself.

I don't get why so many people--here on DU of all places!--are missing the point of this ad. It's stunning. :wtf:

PS: The point of Web ads is that you can send them out. They don't have to sit on your computer. Attach them to e-mails of people who might need a little friendly persuading.

21. you make a solid point
that they could just be attached to the bottom of emails.

My Aunt said that she was unsure of what she was going to do, because Tenn. has become such a hostile election that she doesn't know. I figure if she's feeling that, then perhaps some disenchanted voters that are typically/always repubs are not going to go to the polls IF they have anything going on that day that they would like to attend to, or aren't feeling too good. That's gonna be several thousand votes. Most people will still vote if they normally do so, I don't buy the comment that a lot of Christians are gonna sit because of the scandal du jour for the repubs (what is today's? is it the pittsburgh pastor killing himself over the sex scandal the station was about to discuss?), and they'll still make it, but I'm thinking we'll pick up enough votes from them to make Tenn. tight!

cheers good man...

15. Yeah, bad ad, really.
It makes it look like the Democrats are trying to convince the audience to not vote for George Bush. Would have been a relevant approach back in 2004. However, the ad needed to emphasize what Bill Maher is talking about in his most recent "New Rules" ending rant... This election is about those who enable George Bush, the rubber stamp, red-ink, regressive Republican Party... versus those who will challenge his rule.
