1. It boggles the mind. People are sent to jail over 20 bucks |
|
but he gets to steal 50 BILLION DOLLARS and is free to continue conducting his crimes from home. Furthermore, his entire family needs to be locked up because it's so clear that they were all working together.

Has he been convicted in a court of law? I realize he has been convicted in the public's view.
Till he has been convicted, he is to be treated as a law abiding citizen who has been accused of breaking the law.

3. We need to plant some pot on him |
|
How many pot smokers are in jail? Recently, I read about a local fireman who was accused of allegedly growing marijuana. They threw him in jail, bail at $105,000, and confiscated (read:stole) his personal vehicle.
And this cretin is allowed to live in uber-luxury and continue his greedy, conniving ways. Makes no sense, whatsoever.

after many many years in law enforcement (and of course i am against the war on drugs - heck, many cops are for decrim of mj believe it or not), that very few people go to jail for being "pot smokers".
your example was of a guy who was GROWING, which is an entirely different thing. growers are treated by the law like dealers, since they are "manufacturing".
it takes a LOT for an average joe who is caught with personal possession amounts of pot to go to jail (for more than an overnight stay).
it simply almost never happens.
people who go to jail for pot are people who are already on probation for the same thing (and even then, it usually takes a bit more), multiple priors (more commonly felonies, etc.)
i've investigated literally hundred of drug cases, in several states, and to put it succinctly - joe average doesn't go to jail for smoking pot.
holding big weight, dealing, growing, etc. is another story.
of course, i don't think ANY users of ANY drug should go to jail.

went to jail, not for the underlying charge (she wasn't found guilty of that), but for lying to the feds during the investigation.
iow, perjury.
madoff is probably too smart to perjure himself.

12. Only one answer makes sense: he laundered money for someone in the US govt. |
|
CIA, NSA, NeoCons, maybe illegal funds sent to Israel. Somebody used this guy's Ponzi scheme to funnel cash somewhere and now they can not afford to let him talk so he walks--until he slips in the shower.
