Results indicate that fear of crime is higher among those street women who have suffered past victimization. It is also slightly higher among those who perceived themselves to be more vulnerable. Perhaps most interesting is the finding that there is only a low correlation between self-perceived vulnerability to victimization and the fear of crime. This supports the proposition that these are two distinctive concepts; and, most importantly, it does so in the context of a particularly vulnerable population.

1. its more complicated than that
this is assuming a slew of homogenous psycho-social factors - and generalizing without regard to cultural locale, geography or seasonality.

it should be better science before it draws general conclusions.

2. You have to read the article :)
There are obvious individual factors to consider but the homeless I've been meeting on the street appear be divorced women who could not afford to keep their children, have disabilities (i.e. mental), are high school drop-outs, and were in abusive relationships. It may be hard to generalize.

I actually came across mean last week who were well-groomed and not the "typical" street person. One was a compulsive gambler who lost everything and his family has abandoned him. The other was a former business owner (he did not want to be filmed)who made some bad decisions and ended up on the street.

ANYBODY in America can be on the street!

3. The women I meet frequently claim to be pregnant
Several women I've met on the street have claimed to be pregnant(how they know, it is my guess). For example, Angela says she was raped and now a month later she is pregnant. I don't know if she used an OTC kit or what? I am wondering how many women have STDs?

An observation: On the street, most of the women appear to be paired up with men for "safety." It appears the women living solo are singled out for crime.
