1. About the only way I see the Repugs taking '08 |
|
is if they impeach Bush while the Democrats keep pushing it off the table. Somehow I don't think that's too much of a fairy tale scenario to happen.

2. I would not be surprised to see the GOP initiate impeachment proceedings, |
|
while Nancy Pelosi still has it off the table.
This will make the Dems look bad, and make people think the GOP is actually honest, law abiding, and ethical. It could work, but they'll still have a ton of other dirty deeds to spin.
I think the Dems need to put impeachment on the table, and quickly. They need to be doing it before all of America finally realizes what's been going on, and says WTF? What are the Dems doing? Why are these people STILL IN OFFICE??

. . .and punishment. Even tho impeachment is actually defensive, not punitive, it appeals to the "Get 'em, Get 'em" mentality so prevalent among Republicans.
We are in a time when "Get 'em, Get 'em" (or at least "Get 'em outta there!") is mandatory. Unfortunately, the folks on "our side" tend to be very reticent when it comes to accusing and demanding consequences/punishment.
Of course, as long as SOMEBODY initiates impeachment, we have a shot at redeeming ourselves as a nation.
But it will be tragic for the Dems if the Republicans beat them to the punch. Dems are already busily reinforcing the nation's perception that they are weak by refusing to take up the ONLY lethal weapon in their arsenal. Impeachment is the only action capable of saying "No!" to torture and "No!" to the bushcheney fascist fantasy of a unitary authoritarian executive. By refusing to impeach, Dems are passing up an unprecedented opportunity to define themselves as champions of the People's Government and the Constitution. If Republicans manage to take on that mantle through impeachment, Dems can kiss the WH goodbye.
And if no one gets serious about impeachment -- if Dems continue to limit themselves to ineffectual finger wagging -- they can probably kiss the WH goodbye anyway. The nation put them there to DO SOMETHING. Everyday it is becoming clearer that Dems are doing nothing capable of "making" Bush/Cheney do anything they don't want to do. Approval of Congress is heading down and will continue to do so.
