1. He gets it!
I wonder what was the occassion where this video was made.
Strong words. I can't disagreee with any of it.
Makes me wonder what the private thoughts on "Mr. Danger" are if you could hear them declared by other world leaders, leaders who routinely keep these kind of sentiments guarded within.

20. Look
The Norwegian media covers Oaxaca:
http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/2006/11/04/481849.html
Headline reads 'Where the police is throwing stones at the demonstrators'

It's an article that adopts at least partly the government point of view, but hey - it's coverage!

I think Chavez spoke some truth in this video, lol ;-)

7. "Un Burro!" "You are a donkey, Mr. Danger!"
"To say it in my bad English, you are a donkey, Mr. Danger!"

----

Boy, what an indictment! And every word of it true! I tend to think this is old--maybe 2003--cuz he says "Yesterday, the world marched against the war." Also, he talks about the U.S. bombing cities in Iraq. However, he cites polls that show that 70% "of your own people are against you." Opposition to Bush and his war was more like 55-60% in 2003 (56% opposed just before the invasion). So maybe by "yesterday" (the world marched against the war) he is speaking broadly (several years ago). I wish the footage was dated. Here are some more my notes:

----

You are a coward.

Why don't you go to Iraq and command your army. It's so easy to command from afar. You are a coward. If you ever come up with the crazy idea of invading Venezuela, I'll be waiting for you in this savannah, Mr. Danger.

You're a coward, assassin and genocist. You are an alcoholic, a drunk, Mr. Danger. You are immoral, Mr. Danger. You are the worst ever. How do you translate "the worst" in English? The worst of this planet. The very worst is George W. Bush. God save the world from this menace!

An assassin, a sick man, a psychologically ill man. But he has a lot of power.

Look what's happening in Iraq. Yesterday the world marched against the war. 70% of your own people, in the polls I have seen, are against you.

You're killing children who aren't responsible for your illness, your complexes, man.

Your soldiers in Iraq are bombing cities. We've seen the images of five children who were murdered by your soldiers. But they are not the murderers. You are.

8. A little correction, I think.
In the second to the last sentence, he used the word "chico" at the end of the sentence instead of "hombre", which would be translated as "man". "Chico" would translate more like "boy". It's another not so subtle put-down.

It would be interesting to hear what he said after 3:30 too.

10. To say he seemed pissed would be an understatement...
Ok... he's pissed, I'm pissed, are you pissed? Why aren't more people pissed.

Maybe we will luck out and Bush will call Chavez the devil and give money to the poor. That seems to awaken the outrage of a large portion of the american people no amount of dead civilians, coup attempts or corrupt leadership have.

12. I first thought it was funny but then
was truly chilled by the import of what he was and is always saying to the Venezuelans and other countries about *co. How will the people he talks to you in this inflammatory way distinguish US from *co? You know that they won't over time. We will be considered an extension of this man, this chico calling himself our leader. Supposedly, *co was voted into office, yes? He is our elected leader.

For Chavez to be saying this to this crowd, he is saying it about us. Not directly but it makes this not at all funny to me. Very worrisome. One of these days we will need to be concerned about why Mr. Chavez needs to buoy his ratings up by talking the US president down.

Why would he be doing it now? Why would he be taking the time to make this speech at this time and how often does he do it?

13. he DOES say 70% of US people are against *
I liked that he made a point to mention that.
and there is nothing that says he JUST gave this speech or whatever it would be called

14. I hope he mentions most US citizens don't support him
whenever he speaks ill of *co.

Don't get me wrong. I am all for other world leaders speaking out against this man - it just struck me wrong this morning that we do hear a lot about this from this quarter and I wondered why. What does it do for Chavez to continue talking about it? Doesn't he have other issues to speak out about to his people? Maybe we only hear about him when he is speaking about *co and that's why it seems so lopsided to me.

16. That proves we've absorbed the corporate media propaganda...
and not much more then that.

People who know nothing of Venezuela other then what they hear on the corporate media will not support Chavez, and I'd wager most Americans fall in to that category. So yeah, I could have told you most US citizens probably don't support Chavez. The majority of American don't believe in evolution either. I think the more important question is, would most US citizens support Chavez if their heads weren't filled with propaganda and biased framing from their school, church, government, and news sources.

17. In rereading what I wrote - I can see I wasn't clear at all.
When I said not supportive of "him" - meant *co there. My concern is what he is speaking about us (USA) to his country and other countries and how it benefits him.

From what I do know about Chavez, he has great programs to help those at the poverty level and is trying to lift all boats with the money made by Ven. oil.

19. You got a point
That the election 'victories' of GWB confirms outward that the American people - in a democratic sense - is endorsing Bush. That's the destiny for a democracy. But Bush has stood out so clearly as being nothing else we've seen before, so my guess will be that you are off the hook ;-)

My guess about Chavez is actually that he has a great affection for America, but is adverse to it's policies. He's no fool, and he has obviously read Chomsky, who is an American liberal. He has also met with several people from the democratic US grass root movement. Chavez speaks reason, and his message is directed at the neocons and Bush, not at the people of the US.
Take some time to see this movie about the coup in Venezuela in 2002:

THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED

Prior to this coup, Chavez didn't have public stand-downs with Bush, although the neocon policy was on a 90 degrees angle of his own goals and priorities. It was the Bush govt. that turned policies another 90 degrees and made a collision unavoidable.

21. Thank you!
I just finished watching that and NOW I understand why he may have issues with *co. 2002 was pre-DU for me and my sources of information were M$M-based so I missed most of what happened there that week in April.

Viva Chavez!

15. Lets remember who tried to overthrow who here...
You're coming off a bit paranoid to me, I'm curious if you are getting you're Venezuela education from the corporate media.

Chavez has been VERY clear that it is our government and their foreign policy he takes issue with, and rightly so. He seems to blame the American people for Bush less then I even do...

18. It's very disconcerting to hear two people talk, and yet see only one set of subtitles.
Who's the other guy? It sounds like audio interference, because Chavez and the other guy are speaking at the same time. Is he translating Spanish into, um, Spanish?
