3. Just as Lawrence O'Donnell said |
|
The reason Hannity and the other rightwing morons believe torture works is because IT WOULD WORK ON THEM.

4. Olbermann's challenge/stunt is trivializing torture |
|
I know that Keith may mean well, but his challenge to Hannity is turning torture into a kind of reality show instead of an act of cruelty, injustice, and barbarism.
This is not a game, folks. Please don't further trivialize torture. I sincerely doubt that anyone who has survived torture would be cheering on this stunt.
It is offensive and potentially desensitizing.
Perhaps Hannity would endure the torture (many have, after all). What would that teach us? Would you be annoyed or disappointed?
Or perhaps he wouldn't. What would that teach us? Would you cheer? Or pump your fist in the air?
In either case, I think it would teach us that publicity, spectacle, and mean-spiritedness apparently have no limit or shame in this country.

I can hardly believe this. Would that KO WITHDRAW HIS OFFER and comment on the adolescent trivialization he himself is guilty of.

8. Right. And Olbermann has stooped to his level. |
|
I expect this sort of crap from Hannity, but not from Olbermann. But I guess I'm naive and idealistic.

13. I think you are correct, however.. |
|
There is a chance it might help. Hitchens tried it, somewhat as a stunt, he didn't last 2 seconds, and in all seriousness and candor, calls it torture now. A complete, emphatic reversal.
Would Hannity, assuming he would even have the guts to try it, have the same change of heart? Possibly. Might be a win.
BUT, I agree with your premise, that this does cheapen it, or turn it into a 'fear factor' sort of stunt. Torture generally doesn't work, and it's not how Americans do business. If Olbermann's challenge helps bring about an end to it, great, but there's a chance it will trivialize it, and extend it.

14. The only problem is, even if he did have a change of heart, NO WAY he would share it. |
|
His audience and his employer wouldn't accept it.

17. BUT, I agree with your premise, that this does cheapen it, |
|
It cheapens HANNITY'S FAKE PROPOSAL.
KO and everyone else knows it will never go further. Because it is REAL TORTURE. And everyone KNOWS it, Newty knows it. Cheney knows it, Limbaugh knows it. And so does Hannity.

Like a lot of RWers, Hannity's a blowhard, full of bluster. All talk and no action. Wussboy supreme. He'll never do it. Never.

15. By Hannity's logic, I am an expert on managing Major League baseball teams. |
|
After all, Sparky Anderson once spoke on my radio show. That's how it works, right Sean?
And I'm an expert on the military because I had some great uncles serve during WW II.
Welcome to the twisted logic of Sean Insanity.
