Sen. Arlen Specter Switches Parties |
|
A totally cynical move on this old bird's part. But, with Specter (and Franklin!) I think Dems will have 60!

2. Don't trust Arlen Specter |
|
Honestly, i don't trust Arlen Specter. The democratic party should embrace him now to demoralize the GOP and pass some of the bills that he will help with. But in the next election, the democratic party should bring in a more progressive senator.

3. this is actually good, despite the suspicions on our side |
|
Specter will have no choice but to fall in line behind Democratic ideals; in fact, if previous party defections are any rule (eg. Shelby, Alabama), Specter's positions are likely to get much more liberal if he wants to survive as a Senator, and maintain his Committee seats in the Democratic caucus.

4. ??? We have dozens of actual Democratic senators |
|
who don't "fall in line" behind Democratic ideals. I expect lip service, and no votes, from Specter.

5. Either: he wants to purge his soul |

Or: he wants to go out as the "Übermaulwurf," a flaming Trojan Horse til his dying day!!!
