1. I think beauty contests have their place it's important to bring beauty to the world> |

As long as their consenting grown up beauty contests. In our lives we get beauty from music, art and performing arts. Imagine a world without those things a lot like '1984' ain't it, yeah some things in life are superficial but necessary. There always has to be light to the shade. As long as there is room in peoples lives for the serious things too. Othere than that there were political related issues to this story that did make it relevant I'd say myself.

3. "music, art and performing arts." |
|
True but hardly things found in a miss america pageant.
Let's do a little exercise:
We will compare word "A" with word "B" and you tell me how they compare:
Word "A" means -"existing or occurring at or on the surface" -"situated or occurring on the skin or immediately beneath it" -"appearing to be true or real ONLY UNTIL EXAMINED MORE CLOSELY" -"NOT thorough, deep, or complete; cursory" -"NOT having or showing any depth of character or understanding"
Compare that to word "B" which means -"the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power" -"the various branches of creative activity, such as painting, music, literature, and dance" -"subjects of study primarily concerned with the processes and products of human creativity and social life, such as languages, literature, and history" -"a skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice"
I'm sure you've guest it but incase you haven't, "A" is "superficiality" and "B" is "Art". That probably could coexist but they undoubtably dilute each other. When I imagine a world ran by a pure "beauty pageant" mentality; there would be no meaning in Art and when there is no meaning in Art, it is no longer influential or inspirational and it becomes, well... superficial. When art has no meaning THAT is when I think of "1984" :-)

4. That's great beauty is also in the eye of the beholder so one persons art can also be seen > |

not as favorably by another. For me personally though did the art bring any joy or inspiration to the world then it served it's purpose. Beauty pageants people enjoy maybe not an as in depth level but it's something visual, something pleasing to them and there isn't anything wrong in that. Without anything cheerful and colorful and the would would be more arduous for it. I'm no expert for art or pageants really but they all have a rhyme and reason. Should pageants make headline news, probably not, but I just don't see the harm in them myself if happens to be what a person chooses to do.:)

5. never said there was anything wrong with "cheerful" and "colorful" |
|
Art can be cheerful and colorful without vanity. The rhyme and reason of a pageant is vanity. Just because something serves it's purpose doesn't mean its no longer necessary.

2. Gays shouldn't marry but it's ok to pose naked in front of a camera and walk around as a sex object? |
|
Ok, first off, gays want to be recognized by the STATE as a union in marriage. They do not want to walk into people's CHURCH and force them to accept gay marriage as part of their faith.
Secondly, in the bible, Jesus Christ does NOT say anything about homosexuality in reference to the sanctity of marriage, but He does mention adultery and divorce being the only two offenses to the sanctity of marriage. If these people were REALLY concerned with Christ's will (which they are NOT- they're pseudo Christians who are more concerned with their own self-will) then they would be more up upset with adultery and divorce being legal.
Thirdly, Prejean has posed in front of a camera with her tits hanging out (as a teen AND RECENTLY) and she's walked around in a skimpy bikini in front of millions but I guess she feels this is something God would have her do. I don't think so. God is NOT a homophobic soft core porn director.
I'm not sure which bible she's reading (I would be thoroughly surprised if she has ever even read it) but her values DO NOT coincide with the New Testament; they DO, although coincide with the conservative ideology -and that little dynamic is all too common.
