5. Um... WOW! This guy is GREAT! If you think you're going to see a drab speaker if you waste time |
|
watching this - then watch it!!! You will be impressed. I'm glad I watched to see what he had to say - he is a VERY gifted public speaker. Translate that President Obama! He's no coward - why are you being one on the issue?
I wish there was a way to have him watch this.
I WANT LT. DAN CHOI BEING MY VOICE THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA HEARS!

10. What's with the flag pin? |
|
Why does he wear a flag pin? If he has the sensitivity of plywood he knows the connotations and associations that symbol has. Am I the only one who thinks this is significant?
I get the sense he's trying out for "official leader of American gays".

And for the :I get the sense he's trying out for "official leader of American gays". :wtf: Does that mean? We sure as hell need a leader. The ones we have fucked up on Prop 8 and have their hands out for more money. They sure as hell aren't leading us.

28. "WTF Does that mean? " |
|
Just that we live in a "15 min. of fame" society. We have a history of idolizing people who game the system, often to our detriment.
Leaders, good and bad, start with memorable speeches. Prudence says to keep an open mind in order to keep a cool head. The cause is just. Yet it is still vulnerable, from within as well as without.

14. How many west pt. grad. with a degree in Abrabic can we |
|
kick out because of discrimination. What narrow mindedness our countries leaders are exercising. Get over this limited vision of how they want our men and women to feel about themselves and their loved ones.

15. This guy is a genuine American hero. He wanted to be a career military officer, so he |
|
went to West Point, graduated and was serving his country honorably. In the meantime, the fact that he's gay gets him thrown out of the Army.
As a former infantry officer, I applaud Lt. Choi for his courage and his willingness to try to right an egregious wrong. More power to him.
In a perfect world, hundreds of thousands of heterosexual U.S. military personnel, enlisted and officers alike, all over the world would report en masse to their commanding officers and say "I am gay." You think we might see DADT overturned in record time?

18. what a great idea... if they would only do it! it'd work if even 1/10 of them would do it , because |
|
it'd be thousands upon thousands, and would overload the system to the point of them saying it's not a problem unless someone reports it as a problem of sexual harassment, until they officially got rid of the whole damn rule...

19. Precisely. Not to mention the fact that it would scare the shit out of the Joint Chiefs that |
|
they would lose a huge percentage of their trained, active-duty personnel.
I know it's a fantasy, but I can dream, dammit!
What is doubly appalling about this whole tragic mess is that Lt. Choi and Lt. Col. Fehrenbach were exemplary leaders whose troops respected them.
I am so disappointed that our President has not stepped in on this.

That is a voice that cannot be silenced or stopped if they all speak at once. It's economically stupid to deny gay folks rights they actually are a very wealthy demographic as they don't generally have famalies and work harder. For the economies sake alone their voice should be heard and business more cater fro that community. Let alone when this debate has been decided the GOP will have next to no chance of ever returning to office and that works best of all.

27. As Gavin Newsome said one year ago |
|
"As California goes, so goes the nation. It's gonna happen, whether you like it or not."
I can't say when, but DADT will be repealed under an Obama administration. The time is now, people are standing up (both gay and straight) and voices are being heard. And I really like hearing Lt. Choi's voice among them - he is such a credit to our country. Bravo, sir!:patriot:
K&R for love is worth it!
