1. I get it Joe! In order to prosper, workers need to lower their standards .
of living and take slave wages.

5. Ok, here's a few
Alcoa, Deere and Co., General Mills, Interstate bakeries, McCarthy-Bush co. (who I work for), Kraft, Hormel. Need more? Now some of these companies have people on layoff, but there is still hope and liklihood that they will call people back later. Deere and Co., makers of ag equipment as well as construction and lawn care equipment is well known for recalling employees. So Scarborough, shut the f*** up and try doing a little research sometime.

6. Joe is playing off of the ignorance of his viewers and general public
Joe knows that thanks to decades or Reaganomics, we've gone from around 30% (give or take) unionization to around 7% (give or take). In other words, most of his viewers aren't in a union, so when they try to think of a successful company they come up with nothing.

Not because they don't exist, but because they don't know ANY unionized companies other than the ones that have failed according to recent headlines (see US Auto Industry).

So when they hear this simplistic frame, the 10 watt light in their head lights up and they think Joe made a great point.

NBC News has instituted an across-the-board freeze on raises for its executives and talent, even those with contracts guaranteeing them salary bumps. A tipster tells us that NBC News—and probably all of NBC Universal, though we're not sure—is discreetly calling around and asking its on-air and off-air employees to take one for the team and voluntarily delay any contractually obligated salary increases for six months.

11. To be fair, there is *one* good question along those lines.
Name ONE example of a successful country that is primarily employing conservative/libertarian economic principles?

Even though the definition of conservative/libertarian may vary, I still think it's an interesting question.

9. Sparkle Market
The local grocery chain here is unionized. The workers have been there for years or decades, working at a career.... not a job.

Successful? Without a doubt.
Even in this climate of WalMarts that try to close competitors, they remain strong and profitable. (There are other food store chains that are unionized as well.)

12. Joe can claim that he didn't answer the question ...
Joe said "Name ONE successful unionized company."

Several were named, and that evades the question ... naming one and ONLY ONE ...

19. Cramer named one, Cosco...
they just chose to ignore it. Not all are union but a good majority are. Cosco recognizes the benefits of trade unions. They utilize the trade unions to set the standards for their overseas business policies.

http://www.cosco.com.cn/GC_report/GC_report2008/web-en/c5-index.html
" COSCO Group's Trade Union is responsible for the organization and implementation of the open business policies, and the secondary trade unions are responsible for the specific work."

The subsidiaries of COSCO Group have established their respective Employees Representative Conference for democratic management. The relevant competent authorities in each subsidiary, such as the Department of Human Resources, implement employee management policies. The company recruits new staff openly according to work needs, signs contracts of labor and establishes labor relations with the employees on principles of equality, voluntarity and mutual agreement and in accordance with the law. Child labor is firmly prevented according to the relevant national laws and regulations and COSCO Group's recruitment policies. Internally, all the employees enjoy equal opportunities at work, and male and female employees are entitled to equal pay for the same work. COSCO Group's Trade Union is responsible for the organization and implementation of the open business policies, and the secondary trade unions are responsible for the specific work. Public mailboxes and complaints handling systems are in place at every COSCO subsidiary, dealing with complaints from the employees with regard to human rights issues. Women Workers' Committee is established within the Trade Union to handle issues related to female employees and to protect their legal interests. Also, COSCO Group has introduced the management approaches for overseas companies which outline the regulations and requirements for overseas companies to comply with local laws, respect the manners, customers and rights of the local residents, etc.
