Neda with her father, before she was shot |
|
I wish we had a clear photo of her face before her murder. But, for those who have been hit hard emotionally by this, it's somewhat of a balm to see her alive and walking with her father.

2. Unfortunately, yes, I believe it |
|
deify has nothing to do with it. Relate to another human being's suffering and struggle is what it is about.
Iconography is a fact of the human condition, and if it can put meaning to her life and death, then she will have lived for a great purpose, something I think most of us wish for ourselves.
Showing the videos and photos don't change the facts of her death, they just add meaning to it, and what could possibly be bad or wrong about that?

8. Fighting that old assumption that only "big" is important and "God" is "big" so sit down, shutup, |
|
and obey, because you certainly shouldn't think that what you do matters.
It's so sad that so many people think this way.
Thank you for the work that you do.

6. I THINK I see which one is Neda |
|
Her dad in blue striped shirt. Neda has a baseball cap on over her scarf? WHY did they pick HER to shoot? Can anyone make out the words on the baseball cap? R.I.P. Neda.

19. Yes, baseball cap, blue jeans, black top. That's her. Not very traditional. |
|
Which may have made her more a target.

10. Thank you. When I saw the video of her death, I was |
|
under the impression her father came up to her later and was wearing a white shirt, and so I kept trying to find that white shirt. Watching it again, I could see her father was with her all the time and wore the striped shirt.
Also, thanks to the poster who gave us a photo of Neda alive.

11. The white-haired gentleman... |
|
with the blue and white striped shirt is her father. She is standing to his left dressed in black and wearing a baseball cap and scarf. She turns to face the camera at 0.09
This is heartbreaking.

The image of her dying has been haunting me for 24 hours now, and I desperately wanted to refresh the view in my mind with one of her in life.

13. I hope they are safe. I worry for her family and friends |
|
On one hand, the old addage about publicity being a good thing to protect one's life, I'm hoping this holds true in this case.
I don't know anything about the situation with regards to how easily people can leave Iran if they want to.

15. I don't know, tried to find name, Neda Soltani, I think. Her fathers words to her: |
|
"Neda, don't be afraid."
He knew she was leaving this world.

14. She haunts me too...and seeing this makes my Heart hurt |
|
I watched the video yesterday a couple times and was shocked by my own reaction. I have watched the IVAW hearings and videos, and thought I had seen some horrible stuff ...but for some reason her face stayed with me... perhaps because she is a woman?
In the movies, it's easy to "get" that something is fake.... even though I don't watch action or horror flicks, I have seen anough in my time to know that the blood is reder and runnier...I have also studied extensive physiology and biology....
but I had never seen anything like Neda's death...
Her eyes as she looked to the side ... was she seeing her angels, was she seeing the person filming her and wanting them to stop?
the quickness that it all happened...did she have time to think last thoughts, or was her body just bleeding out and her spirit already long gone...?
the viscosity of the blood coming out of her face, and the tragic clarity of her face as the last light went out...
 I am sorry for recounting the gory details, but it is what keeps getting stuck in my throat today, the tears for a girl 10 years my younger - who even blogged about going out in the street that day and thinking she coud be one of the ones to die...
I have had some hellish moments in my life, but I am SO naieve and protected living here in the US...I will never know what it is like to have riots on my street or bombs in my backyard...
I weep for all the people who are caught up in strfie, and most of all I pray for Neda's family....
also - from Andrew Sullivan's blog...he said they buried her today, and that a Memorial service was not allowed because of the authorities...

18. Thanks Kajsa, I just edited my kick and added a link to a different FB group |
|
without the gory photo on the front page. Somehow I don't think it's a fitting remembrance of her to have her blood covered face as the profile pic.
