1. No, they took it as a request to not go

something he volunteered to do and was not required... and, in fact, even AFTER volunteering, he could choose at any time to "un-volunteer". He volunteered just so they could file this silly lawsuit.

He is in the Guard and had a day time job working for a military contractor.

After he filed this lawsuit, the military decided that it wouldn't be prudent to have him at their facility until the case is heard, so they denied his entry. The contracting company that he works for, noting that his only job was AT the facility, fired him.

But he never DID have to go. Not only that, but he never had to volunteer to go.

He is a chicken shit coward as well as an unemployed asshole.

proving the validity of the birth certificate of the President of the United States would be a simple thing to do?

this seems to have flared up recently. I wouldn't worry about it too much. At first it was crazy making that they could be so stupid--but we already knew that, of course--then it occurred to me that if they are going back to this, they've gotten to the point where this is all they've got, so its basically over.

this is a total no go, absolutely no go.

a. the birth certificate as been presented and validated (yet the myth that it has never been seen is still out there among the true believers who no one will ever be able to reach no matter what)

b. it doesn't matter one iota where he was born. his mother was a US citizen=he's a US citizen. a legal fact that just doesn't seem to get mentioned.

so basically, IMHO, the more they flog this utter bullshit, the more they drive any thinking, or moderate, or rational "conservatives" away from the Republican Party. The more the batshit crazy wing of the party seems to have control of the message, the more anyone outside the 24% hardcore nutjobs will be looking elsewhere for representation or at least willing to listen to someone else. (which also explains to me why Obama continues to try to be moderate, "bipartisan" and appeal to a common "middle" ground, despite how frustrating it is to us on the progressive left)

14. Well...it DOES matter where Obama was born

As has been gone over in various threads here on DU, multiple times...

Due to a weird law that was in effect at the time of his birth, and because of the age of his mother when she left the country, IF Obama was born outside the US, he would not be a "natural born citizen."

The bottom line is that the law at that time doesn't matter because Obama WAS born in Hawaii, another fact that has also been established on DU, as well as by independent researchers, yadda yadda, etc.

I love talking about wingnut theories as much as the next guy, but lets get those wingnut theories in order, eh? :)

The 14th Amendment defines citizenship this way: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." But even this does not get specific enough. As usual, the Constitution provides the framework for the law, but it is the law that fills in the gaps.

Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in those gaps. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are "citizens of the United States at birth:"

•Anyone born inside the United States *
•Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person's status as a citizen of the tribe
•Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
•Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
•Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year
•Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
•Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)
•A final, historical condition: a person born before 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mother who has lived in the U.S.

IMHO 2nd to last bullet applies to Obama(if for some reason first bullet didn't, as we do know it does)
