I learned to heart this guy during the campaign, and he's just as good now.

"AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Richard Trumka traveled to Nevada on Monday to address the Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA) to talk about the new approach the labor movement will be taking towards conservative "Blue Dog" Democrats and Senate centrists like Senators Max Baucus and Blanche Lincoln.

The SMWIA is the first union to have suspended all campaign donations to ALL Democratic candidates until the Employee Free Choice Actand a bill addressing real Health Care Reform are passed. The SMWIA, along with a coalition of over a dozen unions will be running ads next week targeting several Democratic Senators and a Republican."

This is what needs to be done. The Democratic Party leaders need to tell them if you dont support these very important issues then you will get no support from the party including funds.

Why aren't unions calling out Democrats to demonstrate for national single payer

health care?

When they bargain now, they see very well that health benefits are being tossed

aside by companies -- including our town negotiations where health benefits are

attacked!

7. Like Trumka. A solid guy & a tough campaigner.

During the 08 general election he was tireless in convincing white union folks, a lot of whom harbor racial animosities, that they'd be nuts to vote against Obama, a friend and an ally. I'm sure now Trumka realizes how high the stakes are for healthcare reform and at least some version of EFCA -- for the country in general, and to show good faith with labor in particular.
