1. I didn't really understand what happened; people are getting emails from whitehouse.gov even if they
never supported Obama or any other group? I don't see how that's possible. Like Gibbs said, unless we know what who is complaining about getting the emails, there is no way to check what email list they might be on.

The other thing is that these people are just having these emails forwarded to them (probably in response to some email full of lies), in which case the whitehouse has nothing to do with it.

49. Can major prove he's not lying for
faux? Isn't that what they do over there? They said theirselves..they don't have to tell the truth so the downside of that is no one in their right mind believes them.

6. Well I am starting to be on the side of
This being a bad idea.

I mean for the Whitehouse to request people send in misinformation or questionable information regarding the healthcare debate well It just gives me an uneasy feeling. Simply saying to people to send in their questions and concerns would have been fine but to report what you think is misleading info is different and got me bugged.

I keep going back to what if Cheney had started something like this regarding anti-war protests how would I feel. Anyway the last thing Obama needs is the Repukes asking for special counsels to investigate the flag@whitehouse.gov deal.

Shut it down now IMHO.

12. Don't get your point
All the White House is doing is saying that if you receive an e-mail or come across information on line that you think may be in error or you would like to check the facts on send them the information and they will tell you what the truth as they know it is. At least that's how I understand it works. I think they phrased it the way the did because 'send us your concerns...' does not indicate that you will receive back information and is really a different way of going at the question (its almost like polling what the concerns of the moment may be). Also, if I send in some information as a concern that is wrong and they don't send back a correction then I may be left not knowing whether the original information is correct or not. Finally, the Democrats have to quit backing down and acting scared everytime the Republican spin machine puts out some of this crap. If the White House knows what they are doing is a good thing then screw the damn conservatives.

37. Let me clarify....
If someone sends me a email that they got from another source and in it its lists of load of Misinformation, Now I am aware of the issues and will be able to see it for what it is. What purpose do I serve by sending that to the flag website? I am reporting to the White House on others for expressing their views whether they're views are wrong is not the issue in my opinion the issue is I am reporting them to the government.

You honestly don't have a problem with this? Imagine this is the precedent? Next Administration decides that they need their God Fearing Christian Wingtards to report to them things that see out of place as God would have it?

Are you going to feel the same then?

Its A bad Idea stop defending the indefensible.

40. Maybe I misunderstand
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 07:43 PM by droidamus2
From what Obama said at his townhall that is not the way it works either that or I am not understanding the purpose of the site at all. From what I understood the idea behind the site is as a clearinghouse for factual information. That is to say if you come across what you feel is bad information or you need clarification on something you have received they are not asking you to 'turn in the culprit' they are just saying send us the information and we will send you the real truth back. If you were worried about the collecting names all you would have to do is copy the text to your e-mail and there is no way they would know who sent the original. I may be wrong but your interpretation sounds a lot more like right wing spin about 'enemies lists' than real concern. My apologies if that is not true. No I don't have a problem with the White House disseminating truthful information and I don't really believe that this site is set to make some kind of 'enemies list'.

41. It asks for fishy rumors, not fishy citizens.
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

44. Ok
So when the Rethugs get back in charge and they spin it the same way and call this precedent all the hollaring the world isn't going to be able to shut it down and even though we trust the Democrats with this kind of power once we allow it we are damning ourselves.

I do not agree with it on grounds that is sets bad precedent and it should be shut down.

At first I thought of it like you are, oh they are simply rebutting false info from the corporate side and the Repubes and then like I said initially, I started thinking about the slippery slope.

47. I have all had a problem with that
I don't really buy into the slippery slope idea that is usually used to say if we allow x then y is guaranteed to happen or has to happen. I trust the Democrats so that is why I see no problem with them doing this for what I see as a good purpose. I don't buy that because we allow the Democrats to do it for a good reason that we are then required to allow the Republicans to do a similar thing for bad reasons. Each is it's own case. If the Republicans use a similar (I would say not the same) technique for nefarious reasons I say we call them on it. If it is proven that the Democrats are being less than truthful (again I doubt it) then call them on it. I guess my cynical meter doesn't run as high as some peoples.

31. I'd have to agree
All he had to say at the end was:

"I can't have someone investigate whether there has been an error unless I get the specific email adresses, can I now?"

Or just start of with "If people are receiving emails from us that they beleive they have not signed up for they should let us know. We do not do so intentionally. I cannot speak about the mentioned incidents without investigating the specific cases."

He was trying to say something of the sort - but he came of as VERY defensive and incoherent. I like the guy, but this one was easy to brush aside and he didn't.

What exactly does this propaganda-hack think Gibbs could say in response without knowing any of the details? He answered the accusatory question right off saying they are NOT taking data lists and emailing. But no, the hack pushes on with his hypothetical scenario.

Knowing the dumb ass audience that follows the propaganda network, it wouldn't surprise me if 90% of those that are computer savvy didn't sign up, or accidentally sign up for White House mailings and don't even know it.

This is the way you have to handle faux news reporters, you have to treat bullies like bullies.

I love people like jon stewart to death but he and a lot of other media treat them with kid gloves, and i dont buy into the fact that they are letting the fox journos hang themselves.

The only way to deal with bullies is to bullies bad, garrett lost it, because he was stood up too.
