Note: I wasn't sure if I should post parts 2 and 3 in separate posts, or if I should just let folks here use the links at the bottom of this post. I welcome comments about this, as I don't think the forum rules address this issue.:shrug:
(This is part 2 of 3).Operation Ivy is a 1953 Civil Defense film about the first H-Bomb test in 1952
I found this film in the Internet Archive and uploaded it last night after boosting the sound and fixing the audio sync problem in the second half of the film. I also brightened and color corrected the picture wherever I could too.
I don't know if they still show these movies in the public schools anymore, but they should. Even though this film is rather old and dated, it still does a terrific job showing how much destruction and damage just one H-Bomb would do to any city in the world.
This is part 1 of 3 which includes part of President Eisenhower's speech to the U.N. and explains the preparation for the "mike shot," definitely worth watching, but if all you want to see is the detonation and the damage assessments, you could skip to part 2.
