Obama already sign a health bill behind close doors? |
|
If we don't get a public option I'm not voting for Obama in 2012, even if that means I don't vote at all.

Your withholding your vote in 2012 will surely be very instrumental in passing the legislation you want passed. So Congress has already written and voted on a bill? That's great! I don't have to bother my Representatives any more.

5. Obama won't decide if we get a public option. The 90+ Dems in the House won't vote for it. |
|
In other words, we will get the public option in this bill.

7. Seems awfully speculative |
|
Everything he says is from "inside sources", so I'm questioning whether it's true or trying to stir up fear-mongering. There's no doubt that the pharmaceutical companies are involved, but I'm sure even Obama knows that not passing a public option would seriously kill his chances for a second term.
Although we should keep H.R. 676 support going in case this does end up failing.

9. You can read the big pharma concessions memo at Huffington Post. |
|
Also, notice that the vast majority of our reps didn't propose or co-sponsor or even talk about Single Payer. At any rate, I don't think fear mongering is the right word.
If this mobilizes a hard push for the Public Option (even though SP would be so much better of coruse) before Congress is back in session, that's a GOOD thing.

I really hope it's wrong, trust me. At any rate, it's absurd to compare it to the birth certificate BS. What is the motive in this case? The right sure as hell doesn't want to argue about the Big Pharma they're in bed with.
I'll gladly so "I was wrong" if we get a strong public option and no horrible concessions to Big Pharma, i.e. 2% discount over 10 years vs the 35-55% other countries get when buying bulk. How about you do the same on the other side?

Like Cenk said later in the video, there's still a teeny-tiny chance things turn around. But one of my biggest fears is that they pass half-assed nonsense that's destined to fail and call it "reform". The right wing media will STILL call it socialism and Obamacare and rail against it.
That way when it fails people won't correctly attribute the failure to a lack of single payer/public option coupled with non negotiating drug costs, etc. This in turn means real health insurance reform could be decades away.

this be so easy to expose? I know Bernie Sanders would. I don't like that memo at huffpo though. Kirpatrick wrote the articles about White House Affirms Deal on Drug Cost and then Obama Reverses Stand on Drug Industry Deal so I don't know. Guess we'll find out.

12. Public campaign financing and media reform. Then we would be able to change things. |
|
A public option is the compromise. But I've believed for the past month that we will get screwed in the end. They'll leave in the mandatory requirement, and take out the public option. That's my prediction. Seems easy enough to see coming.

I'm comparing their respective policies. And in that regard, I don't see much difference. This isn't a personality contest or a popularity contest, at least not for me. Because if it was a beauty contest, then Obama wins hands down. But policy-wise, he doesn't seem to be very distinguishable from his predecessor, if at all.

27. I said that back in April I think... |
|
got thoroughly attacked by the Obama is a King group. I am a hardcore liberal who despite not personally thinking abortion is healthy it is every woman's right and always should be, I don't believe in using cannabis anymore but it's everyone's right to decide, etc... we should have the right to choose what we want for our lives. The majority of Americans who voted wanted CHANGE to come to health care via a public option or universal 'single payer' plan (obviously the latter is what progressives want), and if this biggest of all the deals that we care about (health care) goes down as described - it's over - the Dem party is nothing to me. Hoping it's not what it seems.

"if they don't pass this with a 60 seat filibuster proof majority, they never had intentions of doing it"
spot on, Cenk...
This better not be another pharma back room deal. This does nothing, and it proves Obama a fool if so, and I don't wanna believe that - I still have hope that this is a bad NYT's report. If it's not, I'm a Progressive Party future-member and will be demanding Howard Dean lead it.
I could see several dozen congresspersons switch party and a senator or two.
Keeping fingers crossed, but wow, constantly keeping in contact with the finance heads on the reform, but not the other plans being worked on implies a lot.
I will march in D.C. if this is announced next month as described here. I won't be alone.
