Bernard Goldberg was on The O'Reilly Factor last night touting his hot new scoop in the long-running controversy over George W. Bush's military service in the Texas Air National Guard:

3. Important news stories aren't "broken" on O'Reilly's show.
Especially if they're true.

Just one more failed attempt by the GOP Ministry Of Propaganda to make the dark bottomless pit of the Bush Legacy look like a shining majestic mountain.

4. There's something very droll about going on Fox to "debunk"...
supposed slanders of Bush, when Fox maniacally touted the Swift Boat Liars' calumnies against Kerry. O'Reilly, of course, was a prime exponent of that smear campaign.

5. My favorite response:

"The only thing George W Bush ever volunteered for was making a cocaine and beer run."

6. "If you want to make a fair and balanced report..." says Billo...
"...you have to report everything on the record and let the audience decide."

One of the things that IS on the record is that at that time, only experienced F-102 pilots were being sent (as in over 1000 hours in the F-102), when Bush was still finishing up his training. Training on an aircraft that was being phased out, and one that he couldn't even be bothered to maintain his flight status on. So yeah, small wonder that that particular little footnote didn't make the cut for airtime. (Say Bill, ever leave out a minor detail from a "fair and balanced" report because you only had so many minutes to fit everything into, and so some things just had to be cut?)

8. So, where's the documentation for his volunteer status?
What did Mary base her statement on?

The Air Force I pushed paper in required a signed form listing countries.

Putting on hip boots; it's getting deep.

10. You don't join the air guard if you WANT to go to war.
At least in those days.

That about sizes up his 'volunteerism.'

12. So stupid. A conniving guy like Bush - volunteers to fly when he knows he doesn't have the hours.
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 08:47 PM by peacetalksforall
Big deal! Did he say = 'I volunteer. Make me eligible even though I'm not eligivle - I'm a privileged son, ya know'.
