1. I've got news for Beck and his guest.

There is animosity toward any kid who is smart, whether they are white, black or polka-dotted. My son is a perfect example, he has been teased and harassed since he started school because he is smart and does well in school.

I grew up being white in a black neighborhood in Kansas City,Ks.
I've never been attacked by a black person. I've had my ass kicked a few times by a couple Hispanics and a few white boys.
Maybe it was because I wasn't Hispanic or White enough? Word Vato!!!

I think it is a hopelessness problem. If you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose.

and frankly if you look at the GOP in general and the RNC Convention just as example, they wouldn't have it any other way - so making this a 'liberal premise' is beyond ridiculous, it smacks of blindness.

I concede that he slandered liberalism with a broad brush smear, but there is a brand of liberalism that thinks like that. And there are unquestionably large swaths of black culture
that are self-limiting. You're "acting white" if you're interested in anything outside of a limited authentic "black" arena--as defined by the narrow minded stereotypical "real" blacks.

Any black person who has spent much time in modern black culture knows what I'm talking about.

And you're right--the core problem isn't race but culture. The strength of our rich and powerful culture--turning deficits into assets--has been perverted. It is one thing to turn table scraps into soul food and to create new musical forms for your segregated clubs. It is quite another to insist on broken English after your ancestors bled and died so you could be educated.

Race isn't the real issue, true, but that was the guest's last point. He agrees with us.

Unlike Beck, I acknowledge the truth wherever I see it.

when started on about 'liberals' always a bad sign. Fighting at school is not a new concept but how someone handles people can avoid it. There is envy in any racial group for him to say it's specific to African Americans is just out there.

If he were white and from Boston he'd be talking about Southie or Roxbury. If he was Cleveland, he'd been talking about the near Westside in the sixties. Or South Akron were he from the Rubber City. In mostly white Granite Shoals here in rural Texas I bet the drop out rate is pretty darn high. They aren't cooking Meth out here because they're honors chemistry scholars.
