You can't make up characters like that! As crazy as he sounds, he is the spokesman for redneck America. He is Sarah Palin's base. And he sounds horribly ill-informed and obnoxiously opinionated--a bad combo.

Yet some of what he said he was doing is admirable. If he really lives on what he can produce (even if it is only to avoid paying taxes), then he does have some instinct for survival. I admit being impressed by people who are able to sustain themselves by living off the land. Difficult as it is, I am really trying hard to look for any common ground with individuals on the other side of a divide that seems 1000 light years wide.

Still, while I admire how he grows his own, I am glad he isn't coming to my house for Thanksgiving. Hope no other liberal is cursed to have him at the table this holiday season either!
